2011 MSA SPORTS GIRLS ALL-NETTERS TEAM

Two players from perennial power Mt. Lebanon and three sophomores highlight the 2011 MSA Sports All-Netters team. The team is made up of the top 10 players in the WPIAL and split into a first- and second-team. The squad was selected by the MSA Sports staff.

Here is a look at the All-Netters team.

2011 PLAYER OF THE YEAR
MADISON CABLE
MOUNT LEBANON, SR., 6-0, G

Madison Cable came into the season with a big reputation. That's what happens when you're ranked as one of the top 100 players in the country and when you sign a letter of intent with Notre Dame before the season.

But the only thing Cable did this year was enhance her reputation.

A senior at Mount Lebanon, Cable did a little bit of everything and has led the Blue Devils to the PIAA Class AAAA title game for the fourth year in a row. Mount Lebanon plays Archbishop Carroll Friday night in the championship game and a win would make Mount Lebanon only the second girls team in WPIAL history to win three consecutive titles.

Cable's scoring numbers aren't over the top, but that's because Mount Lebanon preaches a balanced offense. But Cable still averages a team-high 17.5 points, to go along with 6 rebounds and 2 steals a game. She also is a standout defensive player.

"The thing that makes her so good is that she does so many things well," said Mount Lebanon coach Dori Oldaker.

Besides being named the MSA Sports Player of the Year, Cable also has been selected the Gatorade Pennsylvania Player of the Year. Cable will play next season at Notre Dame. She signed with the Fighting Irish in November.

FIRST TEAM:

ALEXA HAYWARD
BLACKHAWK, SR., 5-8, G

Hayward was the driving force in Blackhawk's run to the WPIAL Class AAA championship. She scored 21 points in both the WPIAL semifinals and championship game. Hayward finished her career with 1,173 points and she will play next season at a Division I college. She signed with St. Francis, Pa., in November.

SHATORI WALKER-KIMBROUGH
HOPEWELL, SOPH., 6-0, G

Walker-Kimbrough has a bright future after starting as a freshman and sophomore for the Vikings. She developed into one of the WPIAL's best players this season, playing on the inside and outside. She was the second-leading scorer in the WPIAL during the regular season and finished with a 21.1 average for a team that made the WPIAL Class AAA quarterfinals. Walker-Kimbrough is considered a Division I college prospect for the future.

ERIN WASKOWIAK
BISHOP CANEVIN, SOPH., 5-10, G

Waskowiak is one of two sophomores on the MSA Sports All-Netters first team. A versatile player who can shoot as well as drive to the basket, Waskowiak helped Bishop Canevin to the WPIAL Class AA semifinals and the PIAA quarterfinals. She averaged 19.4 points a game.

SECOND TEAM:

LASAUNA BROTHERS
NEW CASTLE, SR. 5-10, F
This New Castle player had many opponents sighing, "Oh, Brothers." After leading scorer Kaylynn Waters suffered a season-ending knee injury early in the year, Brothers became the "go-to girl" for New Castle. She averaged 18.5 points a game and helped New Castle reach the WPIAL Class AAA semifinals and the PIAA quarterfinals.

CIARA GREGORY
JEANNETTE, SOPH., 5-7, G
Gregory is one of the top young guards in the WPIAL. She started as a freshman on a team that won the WPIAL Class AA championship. She more than doubled her scoring average this season in helping Jeannette reach the title game for the second year in a row before the Jayhawks lost to Seton-LaSalle. Gregory was one of the leading scorers in the WPIAL with a 19.5 average.

LAUREN MAYERNIK
AVONWORTH, JR., 5-9, F
With leading scorer Tara Gallupe graduated, Mayernik stepped up and had a big season for the Antelopes, helping them to a 21-5 record and the WPIAL and PIAA playoffs. Mayernik averaged 19.1 points a game and is expecting bigger things next year as a senior.
