There are 127 high school girls softball teams competing in the WPIAL this season.
But only (17) of them are members of the "Sweet 16"
13. There are a total of (34) Returning All-Section players on the rosters of "Sweet 16" members.
12. All (17) members finished with an above .500 section record in 2010.
11. Four members finished in third place in their sections in 2010. (Baldwin Greensburg-Salem Frazier and Avonworth)
10. Five members finished in second place in their sections in 2010. (Belle Vernon Sto-Rox Burrell Brentwood and South Side)
9. Eight members won their section titles in 2010. (Greater Latrobe McKeesport Montour Yough Valley Chartiers-Houston Vincentian Academy and Bishop Canevin)
8. All (17) "Sweet 16" Softball Program members qualified for the WPIAL playoffs in 2010.
7. Four member teams went unbeaten in section play in 2010. (Yough -12-0 in Section 2 AAA Valley – 14-0 in Section 3 AA Vincentian Academy – 12-0 in Section 3 A and Bishop Canevin -14-0 in Section 1 AA)
6. All six Class A members last season qualified for the WPIAL playoffs. (Chartiers-Houston Buccaneers Frazier Commodores Vincentian Academy Royals Brentwood Spartans Avonworth Antelopes and South Side Rams)
5. All four Class AA members last season made the WPIAL playoffs. (Sto-Rox Vikings Valley Vikings Burrell Buccaneers and Bishop Canevin Lady Crusaders)
4. All four Class AAA members last season earned berths in the WPIAL playoffs. (Montour Spartans Yough Cougars Belle Vernon Leopards and Greensburg-Salem Golden Lions)
3. All three Class AAAA members last season were WPIAL playoff participants. (Greater Latrobe Wildcats McKeesport Tigers and Baldwin Highlanders)
2. Three members of the "Sweet 16" Softball Program won WPIAL Championships last season. (VINCENTIAN ACADEMY IN CLASS A VALLEY IN CLASS AA AND MONTOUR IN CLASS AAA)
1a. The Valley Vikings had the only undefeated regular season in WPIAL softball last season (17-0). The Vikings were 21-0 before their nationally recognized defeat in their PIAA Quarterfinal playoff-game to Wilmington 5-4 on an illegal pitch call by home plate Umpire Bill Dithrich in the bottom of the ninth inning with Wilmington having a runner on third base that scored the winning run and ended the Vikings perfect season.
1. One member of the "Sweet 16" Softball Program won a PIAA Championship last season. (CHARTIERS-HOUSTON BUCCANEERS IN CLASS A)
