North Allegheny senior Cassandre Korvink-Kucinski will continue her rowing career with one of the top college programs in the nation.

Korvink-Kucinski signed a letter of intent to join Texas next season.

Korvink-Kucinski, a member of the Pittsburgh Rowing Club in Robinson, was one of 36 rowers and coxswains invited to the USRowing U18 Women’s High Performance Camp last June-July in Connecticut. The camp was one below the U19 Selection/Training Camp, from which members of the team that represented the United States at the World Rowing Junior Championships were selected.

She moved up from a development camp.

Recently, she placed second in the Pittsburgh Indoor Rowing Championship regatta in the High School Girls Senior final (7 minutes, 7.17 seconds).

“I want to have fun my senior year, (but) everything I do now is prep for Texas,” she said.

The Longhorns captured their fourth consecutive Big 12 title and eighth overall last season. They placed third at the NCAA championship.

Texas coach Dave O’Neill expects Korvink-Kucinski to make an immediate impact.

“Everyone on our staff was really impressed with Cassandre throughout the recruiting process,” O’Neill said. “She’s a thoughtful, motivated and talented individual.

“She’s exactly the type of person who coaches love to work with.”

Pittsburgh Rowing Club coach Florin Curuea said Korvink-Kucinski has all the ingredients to be a Division I rower.

Korvink-Kucinski, who is 6-foot, plans to study computational engineering and said Texas has a top program for that. She considered Virginia and Cornell.
