High school roundup for Sept. 9, 2023: North Allegheny, Montour win Red, White & Blue Classic

At the Red, White & Blue Classic at White Oak Park, Grove City’s M.J. Pottinger won the Class 3A boys race with a time of 15 minutes, 21 seconds, while North Allegheny claimed the team title with 93 points.
Jack Bertram finished second for North Allegheny at 15:33 while the Tigers’ James Behrend placed sixth (16:10). Kamden Kramer (McDowell, 15:32), Dale Hall (Hampton, 15:49) and Ethan Vaughan (Fox Chapel, 16:09) rounded out the top five, while Hampton (109 points), Grove City (132), Morgantown, W.Va. (163) and Fox Chapel (206) finished out the top five team totals.
In the Class 2A race, Montour’s Julian Kletz finished first (15:34) while Spartans won the day with 92 points. Beaver (94 points), Quaker Valley (104 points), Kiski Area (166 points) and Blackhawk (174) followed. Quaker Valley’s Clark LaLomia placed second (15:35) while Michael Braun (Freeport, 15:40), Caleb Prettyman (Franklin, 15:43) and Giacomo Lepore (North Catholic, 16:16) closed out the top five.
Girls cross country
North Allegheny dominated the Red, White & Blue Classic’s Class 3A girls race at White Oak Park with 37 points and the top three finishers. Wren Kucler won with a time of 17:45, followed by teammates Robin Kucler (18:03) and Eva Kynaston (18:23). Caroline Adams (Mt. Lebanon, 18:27) and Madeline Gump (Morgantown, W.Va., 18:34) followed. Morgantown finished second with 75 points while Norwin (148 points), Peters Township (209) and Mt. Lebanon (214) rounded out the top five.
Montour’s Lakyn Schaltenbrand won the Class 2A race (19:06) and the Spartans placed first with 97 points. Kevyn Fish (Hampton, 19:18), Grace Fritzman (West Allegheny, 19:19), Gracie Plastino (North Catholic, 19:25) and Grace Trimmer (Uniontown (19:34) placed second through fifth while North Catholic (118 points), Beaver (121 points), Central Cambria (145 points) and Uniontown (187 points) closed out the top five in team points.
Boys soccer
Charleroi 8, McGuffey 0 — Arlo McIntyre scored three goals and Landon Barcus added two goals and three assists as Charleroi (7-0) shut out McGuffey (5-2) in nonsection play. Bryce Large contributed two goals while Dylan Klinger contributed a goal and two assists.
Jeannette 21, Valley 0 — Jordan Taylor had seven goals as Jeannette (3-2) beat Valley (0-2) in nonsection play. Jared Vincent added four goals while Austin Emery contributed three goals.
Penn-Trafford 11, Hempfield 0 — Joseph Ambrose, Ben Luchs and Colton Payne scored two goals each as Penn-Trafford (2-4-1) shut out Hempfield (0-5) in nonsection play.
Plum 3, Obama Academy 0 – Tristin Ralph had two gaols, and Owen Zalewiski posted a shutout as Plum (5-1, 4-0) earned a Section 3-4A win.
Ringgold 5, West Mifflin 0 — Nick Evans had three goals and Juraj Stasko chipped in a goal and two assists as Ringgold (6-0) shut out West Mifflin (1-6) in nonsection play.
Riverview 5, Chartiers-Houston 4 — Chris O’Toole scored two goals and freshman Carson Bodnar scored the game-winner with four minutes remaining as Riverview (2-2) overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat Chartiers-Houston (0-7) in nonsection play.
Serra Catholic 3, Brashear 1 — Caden Taylor, Luke Perez and Collin Holmes scored for Serra Catholic (4-1) in its nonsection win against Brashear (0-2).
Seton LaSalle 2, North Catholic 0 — In nonsection play, Jack Billick scored both goals for Seton LaSalle (3-0-1) in its win over North Catholic (1-4). Nick Cherry posted the shutout in goal for the Rebels.
Girls soccer
Beaver 9, South Side 0 — Sydney Chontos and Marina Hahn had two goals and two assists each as Beaver (2-1) shut out South Side (0-4) in nonsection play. Ana Hahn added two goals and one assist while Kaitlyn Reap and Lilia Battalini tallied one goal and one assist each.
Burrell 4, Armstrong 1 — In nonsection play, Tessa Mathabel had two goals while McKenna Miller added a goal and an assist as Burrell (3-1) beat Armstrong (1-3).
Deer Lakes 2, Keystone Oaks 1 — Brittany Schindler and Bryanna Simonetti scored goals as Deer Lakes (2-2-2) defeated Keystone Oaks (3-2) in nonsection play.
Monessen 12, Jeannette 1 — Sam Saylor scored six goals to lead Monessen (1-2) to the nonsection win over Jeannette (0-3). Ava Petruska added two goals in the win.
Moon 2, Butler 0 — In nonsection play, Sydney Felton scored a goal and assisted on Ava Estright’s goal as Moon (5-0) beat Butler (2-3).
Mt. Lebanon 3, Bethel Park 0 — Tessa Peer, Allie McKeever and Mary McElhattanin had goals as Mt. Lebanon (4-2, 2-2) shut out Bethel Park (3-2-1, 2-2) in Section 2-4A.
Montour 3, Plum 3 — Rayla Smith had two goals while Ava Weleski added a goal and two assists as Plum (3-0-1) tied Montour (3-0-1) in nonsection play. Grace Bannon had a goal and two assists for Montour while Riley Hall and Caitlyn Sill added one goal each.
Mt. Pleasant 5, Elizabeth Forward 0 — Rylin Bugosh had three goals and goalkeeper Laurel Rummel posted the shutout as Mt. Pleasant (3-2) picked up the nonsection win over Elizabeth Forward (2-1).
Penn-Trafford 12, Hempfield 0 – Emma Stovar and Alexis Brown each had hat tricks, and Avery Bosack scored twice to lead Penn-Trafford (4-1) to a nonsection win.
Peters Township 8, West Allegheny 0 — In a nonsection matchup, Jordan Klein had a goal and two assists as Peters Township (4-0-1) blanked West Allegheny (3-3).
