With junior Robin Reilly giving a verbal commitment to West Virginia, Latrobe continued its recent pipeline to Division I college soccer.
The Wildcats now have four players committed to D-1 programs. The others are senior forward Regan Reilly (Bowling Green), senior midfielder Ella Bulava (Maryland) and junior midfielder Maddy Petruzzi (Valparaiso).
Bulava is out for the season with a knee injury.
Last year, Wildcats goalkeeper Sofia DeCerb committed to James Madison.
Robin Reilly has five goals and four assists in three games since returning from a high ankle sprain she suffered in club season.
She had four goals in her first game back, a 5-1 victory against Norwin, and registered three assists in a 12-0 win over Penn Hills.
Row Vikes
Mt. Pleasant has an explosive offense, as anyone who watched the Vikings play last season can attest to.
They’re still at it.
The proof is in the numbers. Mt. Pleasant (4-2), the returning WPIAL 2A runner-up, has produced 37 goals, including 34 in its last three games.
Rylin Bugosh has a team-best 11 goals, while Morgan Gesinski has has eight and Maggie Piper six.
Extra effort
Alexis Brown worked a double on Saturday.
The Penn-Trafford junior kicked a pair of extra points in a junior varsity football game in the morning, then recorded a hat trick with three goals in a 12-0 soccer win over Hempfield in the afternoon.
Game of the week
The game to watch in Class 3A Wednesday night has No. 4 Latrobe (3-1, 2-1) hosting No. 5 Franklin Regional (5-1, 3-0) in Section 3.
Last year, Latrobe knocked off then-No. 5 Franklin Regional, 1-0, in Murrysville, then completed the section sweep with a 2-0 win at Latrobe.
Franklin Regional went on to make the WPIAL quarterfinals, while Latrobe reached the semifinals.
Both teams lost to Mars.
Six for Saylor
Monessen standout Sam Saylor had a double-hat trick when the Greyhounds downed Jeannette, 12-1.
Her six goals led six goal scorers in the win.
