Springdale continues its search for a new football coach, and the deadline for applications, according to a post on the WPIAL website, is Wednesday.

Ryan Tempalski stepped down shortly after the season concluded, ending a two-year tenure with the Dynamos.

In explaining his decision, Tempalski said it was best he no longer continue in the position.

It is not known how many candidates have applied for the job or when the position might be filled in the process that will include interviews after Wednesday.

When Tempalski was hired in spring 2022, he inherited a youthful team that had just lost 17 seniors, many two-way starters and major contributors, from a 2021 team that went 7-5 overall and upset No. 4 West Greene in the first round of the WPIAL Class A playoffs.

The Dynamos took their lumps in 2022, going winless in and out of Eastern Conference play.

This fall, Springdale showed improvement, both in team play overall and through the efforts of several players who returned with a year of experience.

Tempalski said strides forward were achieved despite winning just one game, a 35-21 victory over Summit Academy in Week 2.

The Dynamos came within six points of a win against Frazier, and they led Riverview 21-0 at halftime in the season finale before the Raiders rallied for a 40-21 win.

Senior Chase Weihrauch finished 42 yards shy of 1,000 passing yards in 10 games with 14 touchdowns against 13 interceptions.

He added 722 yards and five scores on 119 rushing attempts.

Junior Colton Gent hauled in 33 of Weihrauch’s passes for 617 yards and nine TDs.

Defensively, Weihrauch and Gent led the way with 90 and 83 tackles, respectively.

“We had the second-best passing attack in Springdale history this past season,” Tempalski said.

“To me, in Year 2 with a team that had just 23 football players on it, it was good work. Colton was three receptions off the single-season record. Chase really wanted to get to that 1,000-yard mark. We had two approach 100 tackles. In 2023, we were out there playing football, and you could see the improvement in the guys.”

Tempalski said he most likely will be on a WPIAL football sideline in 2024.
