High school roundup for Dec. 8, 2023: Baldwin outlasts Fox Chapel in 4 overtimes

Nate Wesling scored nine of his 29 points in the fourth and final overtime as Baldwin outlasted Fox Chapel, 67-56, in a nonsection boys basketball marathon Friday night.
Wesling had 12 points at the end of regulation. Nate Richards added 14 points for the Highlanders (3-1).
Fox Chapel’s Asher White made a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to tie the score 38-38 at the end of regulation. Jefferson Moorefield-Brown had career highs with 27 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out in the third overtime. Will Siegel added eight points and 10 rebounds for the Foxes (2-2).
Ambridge 95, Ellwood City 82 – Ambridge (2-3) had six players score in double digits in a nonsection win over Ellwood City (1-3): Jared Astorino (33), Julien Hubbard (18), Owen Buchanan (12), Ethan Mycyk (10), Nino Ridout (11) and Adam Fernandez (10). Joe Roth put up 33 points, Colton Crizer added 11 and Nathan Williams chipped in 10 for the Wolverines.
Avella 56, Bentworth 53 – Westley Burchianti scored 17 points and Cain Allen added 13 to power Avella (2-2) to a nonsection win. Lucas Burt had 18 points and 14 rebounds and Ben Hays added 12 points for Bentworth (1-2).
Burgettstown 47, Freedom 25 – Carson Tkalcevic and James Leuice each scored 13 points and Zack Schrockman added 11 for Burgettstown (3-0) in a nonsection win. Garrett Drutarosky and Cody Patterson led Freedom (0-5) with seven points apiece.
Canon-McMillan 63, Bethel Park 53 – Evan Morris put up 21 points, Roman Koenemund made five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points, and Eamon O’Donoghue had 15 points as Canon-McMillan (2-1) beat Bethel Park (1-2) in nonsection play. Shawn Davis dropped 20 points, Micheal Mathias added 14 and Nick Brown had 11 for the Black Hawks.
Carmichaels 65, California 62 – Carmichaels (2-2) got a big night from Dominic Colarusso, who scored 32 points, and beat California (0-2) in nonsection play. Aydam Adamson scored 17 points for the Mighty Mikes. Jaquese Derns put up 20 points while Vinny Manzella and Jacob Ziolecki each scored 13 points for the Trojans.
Chartiers-Houston 43, Brentwood 38 – Nate Gregory scored 19 points for Chartiers-Houston (4-0) in a nonsection victory. Forrest Betz had 11 points to lead Brentwood (2-2).
Clairton 74, Brownsville 46 – Dashawn Hines scored 26 points and Taris Wooding chipped in 11 to help Clairton (2-1) to a nonsection win. Trenton Wible led Brownsville (1-3) with 19.
Cornell 56, Propel Montour 43 – Julian Cordice scored 26 points to lead Cornell (3-1) to a nonsection win. John Anderson scored 15 for Propel Montour (0-4).
Elizabeth Forward 79, Washington 70 – Isaiah Turner produced 28 points, Cy Herchelroath added 19 and Tyler Basic scored 11 to lead Elizabeth Forward (2-1) to a nonsection win. De’ondre Dougherty put up 29 points and Ruben Gordon added 17 for Washington (0-4).
Erie 56, Shady Side Academy 46 – Jaheim Mims scored 17 points to lead Erie past Shady Side Academy (2-2).
Franklin Regional 71, West Mifflin 44 – Cam Rowell scored 18 points, Colin Masten added 16, Fin Hutchinson chipped in 13 and Cooper Rankin had 10 for Franklin Regional (3-0) at the Mike Rettger Memorial Tournament. Daven Reynolds dropped 20 points and David Fleming had 10 for West Mifflin (1-2). The Panthers will play Seneca Valley in the championship game at 1 p.m. Saturday at Franklin Regional. The Titans will meet Laurel Highlands in the consolation game at 11:30 a.m.
Freeport 78, Leechburg 49 – Dempsey Cowan scored 18 points to lead Freeport (2-2) to a nonsection victory. Brady Sullivan added 13 and Gavin Glista had 10 for the Yellowjackets. Jayden Floyd scored 23 and Gabe Santiago chipped in 11 for Leechburg (1-3).
Gateway 57, Penn Hills 51 – Bryson Pavlik scored 16 points and Alex Dunmore had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds to lead Gateway (3-1) to a nonsection victory in a matchup of top teams in Class 5A. Alex Lowry added 12 points for the Gators. Robert Thomas and Khalil Wall led Penn Hills (0-1) with 16 points apiece. Lamire Redman had 10.
Jefferson-Morgan 63, Waynesburg 53 – Dayten Marion put up 21 points, Houston Guseman followed with 20 and John Woodward added 13 for Jefferson-Morgan (3-1) in a nonsection win. Alex Eck scored 16 points and Alex Vansickle added 10 for Waynesburg (1-3).
Mars 65, Plum 46 – Ryan Ceh scored 27 points and Ian Zukowski added 15 as Mars (2-1) won a nonsection game to give coach Rob Carmody his 400th career victory. Max Grice scored 29 points for Plum (1-3).
McDowell 55, Chartiers Valley 52 – Tyler Grove scored 23 points for McDowell in a nonsection win over Chartiers Valley (1-2). Jayden Davis had 19 points for the Colts and Julian Semplice netted 14.
Moon 56, Central Catholic 41 – Aiden Reesman put up 20 points and Elijah Guillory chipped in with 15 to lead Moon (1-1) to a nonsection win in the Jack Twyman Classic hosted by Central Catholic (1-0). Vernon Settles scored 12 points to lead the Vikings.
Mt. Lebanon 54, Pine-Richland 39 – Liam Sheely had 21 points and Nate Girod scored 18 to push Mt. Lebanon (2-0) past Pine-Richland (1-2) in a nonsection game. Sheely and Girod both hit four 3-pointers. Emery Moye and Doolin Stoober scored 10 apiece for the Rams.
Nazareth Prep 51, Sto-Rox 41 – Leon Harrison scored 16 points for Nazareth Prep (3-0) in a nonsection win over Sto-Rox (1-1). Justin Johnson led all scorers with 20 points for the Vikings.
Neighborhood Academy 74, Pittsburgh Christian Academy 22 – Courtney Wallace had 24 points and sank four 3-pointers for Neighborhood Academy in a nonsection win. Kedron Gilmore added 14 points and John Wilkins scored 12. Aaron Powers led Pittsburgh Christian Academy with 17 points.
Neshannock 59, Brookville 56 – Jake Rynd led all scorers with 17 points, David Kwiat added 14 and Anthony Bonner followed with 12 as Neshannock (3-1) won a close nonsection matchup.
Northgate 70, Eden Christian 27 – Josh Williams dropped 25 points and Landon Lockett put up 20 as Northgate (1-1) cruised to a nonsection win against Eden Christian (0-4).
Penn-Trafford 55, Trinity 54 – Tyler Freas scored 17 points and Jason Sabol added 14, hitting four 3-pointers, to lead Penn-Trafford (3-1) to a nonsection win in another close game for the Warriors. Dante DeRubbo scored 20 and Jacob Dunkle had 18 for Trinity (1-2).
Propel Braddock Hills 39, Perry Traditional Academy 34 – Kato Hill scored 15 points as Propel Braddock Hills (2-1) narrowly defeated Perry (0-4) in nonsection play. Jordan Roldan produced 17 points for the Commodores.
Riverside 45, Western Beaver 34 – Darren McDade scored 15 points to lead Riverside (2-2) to a nonsection win. Jon Backur led Western Beaver (0-4) with 13 points.
Riverview 78, Apollo-Ridge 32 – Nate Sprajcar netted 22 points and Holden Deasy and Jack Loughren added 17 each to help Riverview (2-1) cruise to a nonsection win. Mykel Hardman had 15 points for Apollo-Ridge (0-4).
Seneca Valley 62, Laurel Highlands 54 – Tyler Pepin scored 22 points and Kai West added 17 for Seneca Valley (2-2) at the Mike Rettger Memorial Tournament at Franklin Regional. Owen Congdon chipped in 10 for the Raiders. Aiden Black scored 17 and Antwan Black added 13 for Laurel Highlands (1-2).
Springdale 83, St. Joseph 41 – John Hughes led all scorers with 18 points, Mason Gent added 15, Chase Weihrauch produced 12 and Liam Dexter had 11 as Springdale (3-0) dominated a nonsection matchup. Dylan Ferrante scored 13 points and Gabe Maltese followed with 12 for St. Joseph (1-3).
Shaler 55, South Fayette 53 – Kaden Orga put home a buzzer beater in overtime to lift Shaler (4-0) to a nonsection win. Orga finished with 14 points, Brandon London added 13 and Keegan Smetanka scored 12. Michael Plasko had 30 points for South Fayette (2-2).
Uniontown 74, Thomas Jefferson 71 – Notorious Grooms had 25 points and Jamire Braxton scored 23 to help Uniontown (3-0) edge Thomas Jefferson (3-1) in nonsecton action. Calvin Winfrey added 12 points for the Red Raiders. Evan Berger led the Jaguars with 24 points.
West Allegheny 56, Steel Valley 21 – Justin Manns scored 17 points, Brandon Bell had a double-double (10 points, 12 rebounds) and Ty Blatz added 10 points as West Allegheny (4-0) beat Steel Valley (0-4) in nonsection play. Nate Yuhas had eight points to lead the Ironmen.
York Suburban 63, North Allegheny 58 – Anthony Sciote scored 15 points, Joey Dopirak added 13 and Ty Iwanonkiw finished with 10 as North Allegheny (0-2) dropped a nonsection contest to York Suburban.

Bethel Park 56, South Fayette 54 – Ella Sabatos and Julia Benlock each scored 13 points and Ella Hartman had 10 to lead Bethel Park (2-2) past South Fayette (2-1) in nonsection play. Haylie Lamonde led the Lions with 17 points and Erica Hall chipped in 14.
Ellis School 49, Avella 23 – Taelor Spencer and Selah Cyrus each scored 10 points to power Ellis School (3-1) to a nonsection win. Mariah Stritzinger scored eight for Avella (0-5).
Geibel 42, Derry 39 – Emma Larkin buried a 3-pointer to tie the game with 40 seconds left, then after a defensive stop, Larkin made a layup for the game-winning shot as Geibel (3-1) edged Derry (2-3) in nonsection play. Larkin finished with 30 points and Ava Henderson added 12 for the Gators. Jane Huss scored 18 points for the Trojans.
Greensburg Salem 55, Connellsville 18 – Kait Mankins scored 16 points and Ashlan Price chipped in 12 as Greensburg Salem (2-1) rolled to a nonsection win over Connellsville (2-2).
Ligonier Valley 62, Valley 14 – Madison Marinchak scored 14 points and Marlee Miller added 12 to lead Ligonier Valley (2-2) to a nonsection win. Lyla Barr (10 points, 11 rebounds) and Sydnee Foust (10 points, 12 rebounds) each had double-doubles for the Rams. Neveah Lyle led Valley (0-5) with nine points.
Spring-Ford 51, Norwin 46 – Lauren Palangio had 18 points and Ava Kobus scored 11, but Norwin (2-1) dropped a tight contest to Spring-Ford at the State College tournament.
University (WV) 70, Albert Gallatin 28 – Mya Glisan had 18 points, but Albert Gallatin (0-2) dropped a nonsection game.
West Greene 35, Bentworth 32 – Kendra Tharp scored 18 points to lead West Greene (1-3) in a nonsection win over Bentworth (1-3). Bella Moyer finished with 11 points and Taylor Aubrey had eight rebounds for the Bearcats.

Connellsville 36, Fort Leboeuf 12 – Tommy Gretz (107) and Zachary Franks (121) each recorded pins as Connellsville (1-0) beat Fort Leboeuf in a nonsection match. Lonzy Vielma (160), Chris Cook (215), Kai Vielma (133), and Julian Ruggieri (139) all won by decision while Chase Sparks (127) and Evan Petrovich (145) won by major decision for the Falcons.
