High school roundup for Dec. 16, 2023: Mt. Lebanon drops Aliquippa

Riley Farabaugh scored 19 points to lead Mt. Lebanon to a 55-44 boys basketball victory over Aliquippa at the Clash at North Allegheny on Saturday.
Liam Sheely and Nate Girod each hit four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points for the Blue Devils (5-0), who jumped out to an 18-6 lead after one quarter. Cameron Lindsey led Aliquippa (2-1) with 23 points. Joshua Pratt added 11.
Allderdice 79, Avonworth 69 – Logan Golle scored 25 points and Major Rainey added 21 as Allderdice (3-1) earned a win at the Harry Jenkins Classic at La Roche. Rowan Carmichael had 20 points for Avonworth (4-2) and Zac Goldfain scored 15.
Beaver 67, West Carrollton (Ohio) 59 – Brady Mayo scored 28 points and Ty Butler and Nick Krzeczowski each added 12 to lead Beaver (3-3) to a nonsection win.
Cheswick Christian 53, Portersville Christian 34 – Grant Rochkind posted a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds to help Cheswick Christian dispatch Portersville Christian in Southwest Christian Athletic Conference play. Sean Louis also had 13 points for the Chargers.
Fort Cherry 74, Carlynton 52 – Shane Cornali and Derek Errett scored 13 points each to lead a balanced Fort Cherry attack in a win at the Showdown at North Allegheny. A total of 13 players scored for the Rangers (2-1). Ryan Lewis had 15 points for Carlynton (1-5) and Tyler Heinrich scored 12.
Hempfield 64, Connellsville 35 – Danny Husenits scored 19 points to lead Hempfield (2-4) over Connellsville (0-6) in a nonsection game. Drew Gordon added 13 points for Hempfield, which led 37-12 at halftime.
Imani Christian 76, St. Edward (Ohio) 60 – R.J. Sledge and Nate Brazil scored 20 points each as Imani Christian (1-0) beat St. Edward (Ohio) at the Play-By-Play Classic in Cleveland. Avery Wesley added 15 points for Imani Christian, which trailed 32-28 at halftime.
Mohawk 62, South Range (Ohio) 50 – Bobby Fadden scored 18 points to lead three Mohawk players in double figures in a nonsection win. Jay Wrona had 14 points for the Warriors (2-3) and Mason Hopper added 12. Landon Moore had a game-high 25 for South Ridge.
North Allegheny 45, Murphysboro (Ill.) 40 – Joe Dopirak netted 21 points and Joe Marquis scored 11 to lead North Allegheny (3-4) to a win at the KSA Classic in Orlando.
Shaler 68, North Hills 47 – Julian Vizzoca’s 20 points led Shaler (6-0) to the win against North Hills (2-2) in the Harry Jenkins Classic at La Roche. Brandon London added 17 points and 15 rebounds while Keegan Smetanka scored 17 points. Eric James paced North Hills with 14 points and Zach Pollaro contributed 12 points.
South Allegheny 59, Grove City 48 – Josh Jackowski led South Allegheny with 17 points in a win at the Harry Jenkins Classic at La Roche. Drew Cook had 15 points for the Gladiators (5-0) and Jeston Beatty scored 14. Nathan Greer had a game-high 21 points for Grove City.
Upper St. Clair 56, Woodland Hills 36 – Tyler Robbins had 15 points to lead Upper St. Clair (3-2) past Woodland Hills (3-3) in the Harry Jenkins Classic at La Roche. Christian Ito added 13 points for the Panthers and Kaamil Jackson scored 10.
Girls basketball
Avonworth 47, Union 39 – Greta O’Brien scored 22 points and Rebecca Goetz added 18 points as Avonworth (4-0) beat Union (3-3) at the Showdown at North Allegheny. Kylie Fruehstorfer’s 14 points paced Union.
Burrell 37, Yough 17 – Anna Clark had 12 points and 14 rebounds as Burrell (4-0) beat Yough (4-3) in nonsection play.
California 58, Mapletown 19 – Rakiyah Porter scored a career-high 34 points to lead California (2-4) to the nonsection win against Mapletown (1-4). Isabella Garnek had 11 points in the loss.
Canon-McMillan 61, West Allegheny 48 – Lauren Borella hit five 3-pointers on the way to scoring 23 points as Canon-McMillan (5-1) beat West Allegheny (3-4) in nonsection play. Madison Clair added 20 points for Canon-McMillan, which extended its winning streak to five. Alaina Holtz led West Allegheny with 15 points and Alexis Santucci scored 12 points.
Lebanon 51, North Catholic 49 – Despite six 3-pointers by Alayna Rocco, North Catholic (2-2) fell to Lebanon at the Keystone Classic. Rocco finished with 22 points while Ava Walker contributed 10 points. Liliana Harrison had 15 points for Lebanon.
Lincoln Park 62, Shady Side Academy 24 – At the Showdown at North Allegheny, Maddie Syka and Abbi Januzzi had 16 points each as Lincoln Park (4-0) downed Shady Side Academy (5-1). J’La Kizart added 11 points for Lincoln Park while Maggie Spell scored 10 points for Shady Side Academy.
Montour 58, Aquinas Academy 52 – In nonsection play, Tiffany Miller scored 21 points and Jordyn Wolfe added 19 points as Montour (4-2) handed Aquinas Academy (6-1) its first loss of the season. Sterling McCleaster and Sofia Brandy chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively, for Montour. Ellie Junker led Aquinas Academy with 15 points while Violet Johnson scored 12 points.
North Allegheny 54, North Hills 47 – Kellie McConnell scored 14 points as North Allegheny (5-0) beat North Hills (4-3) in a nonsection matchup. Lydia Betz added 11 points for North Allegheny. Gia Minton recorded a game-high 18 points while Gia Sturdivant scored 12 points.
Portersville Christian 48, Cheswick Christian 24 – Isabelle Green scored 12 points to lead Portersville Christian to a Southwestern Christian Athletic Conference win. Allie Szramowski scored 10 for Cheswick Christian (1-4).
Trinity 59, Belle Vernon 15 – Sam Horne scored 11 points and Sutton Williamson and Macie Justice had 10 points each as Trinity (4-1) beat Belle Vernon (3-3) in nonsection play. Carolyn Lee had 10 rebounds for Belle Vernon.
Wrestling
Kiski Area Cavalier Duals – The host Cavaliers ended up fourth on the day out of the 10 teams that participated. They had wins over Butler, Penn-Trafford and Waynesburg, but fell to Fort LeBeouf in pool play and to North Allegheny in the third place match. Pennridge defeated Fort LeBeouf, 31-23, in the championship match.
Panther Holiday Classic – Indiana’s Nico Fanella (121) and Trinity’s Blake Reihner (139) won all-WPIAL finals in their respective weight classes at the annual tournament held at Mt. Aloysius College. Fanella earned a 13-5 major decision over Seneca Valley’s Connor Smith. Reihner took a 3-0 decision over Quaker Valley’s Jack Kazalas.
Connellsville’s Lonzy Vielma won the 160-pound final with a 10-0 major decision over Canton’s Hudson Ward.
Quaker Valley’s Bruce Anderchak (107), Connellsville’s Kai Vielma (133) fell in championship matches and were runners-up.
King of the Mountain – Latrobe’s Luke Willochell (121), Canon-McMillan’s Andrew Binni (127) and West Allegheny’s Shawn Taylor (172) won titles at the annual tournament at Central Mountain High School.
Willochell pinned all five of his opponents in the tournament, including a first-period fall over Line Mountain’s Brock Rothermel in the finals. Binni got past Bald Eagle Area’s Lucas Fye, 7-6, in the championship match. Taylor defeated Pottsville’s Terrell McFarland, 6-4, in the finals.
