Fox Chapel graduate Jessie Thiessen was picked for the North Coast Athletic Conference women’s soccer 40th anniversary all-decade team.
Players had to compete in the NCAC between 2013-23 to be eligible. Thiessen, a 2017 Allegheny college graduate, helped the Gators reach the NCAA Division III tournament in 2013 and 14.
In 2013, Allegheny won the NCAC title.
Thiessen’s impact was felt from nearly the minute she arrived on campus. During the 2013 season, Thiessen was chosen as the NCAC Newcomer of the Year. She was picked for all-NCAC honors during three of her four seasons with the program.
Thiessen ranks sixth in program history in points with 79 and is seventh with 29 goals scored.
Back in win column
Fox Chapel’s hockey program is in sixth place in the PIHL Class 2A standings. The Foxes snapped a two-game slide before the holiday break by beating North Hills, 7-2. Fox Chapel was set to resume its season against Bishop McCort at Cambria County War Memorial on Jan. 4, but results were too late for this edition.
Liam Wiseman leads the team with 15 goals, while Dom Casile has contributed 11.
Hot start on mat
Fox Chapel’s wrestling team has shown it has a deep lineup this season. The Foxes have opened with an 8-1 mark in dual matches, including two wins over Kiski. Fox Chapel has also found some success on the individual level.
Foxes 121-pound wrestler Michael Worsen beat Corry’s Logan Hodak to win the Southmoreland Invitational. Landon Funk also reached the third-place match at 114 pounds but lost 10-3 to United’s Jacob Sombronski.
Pushing themselves
The Foxes boys basketball team has been putting itself through the wringer before section play started. One of Fox Chapel’s toughest games was a matchup with defending City League champion Allderdice at the Pittsburgh Holiday Classic. While the Foxes lost that game 51-48, the experience has been helping them get prepped for Section 2-5A action.
The Foxes opened section play Jan. 2 with a 61-52 victory over defending section champion Penn Hills.
