High school roundup for March 2024: Plum softball rallies to win in 7th

Jaiden Gentile singled and scored on a Liana Yusko sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning as Plum rallied for a 9-8 victory over Highlands in nonsection softball Friday.
Yusko went 3 for 5 with two doubles and Gentile also doubled and drove in a pair of runs for the Mustangs (3-1). Danielle Pici homered and drove in three runs and Makenzie Marotta had three hits.
Gabby Chambers and Peyton Smalley homered and Jocelyn Scardina singled, doubled and drove in a run for Highlands (0-3). Alexis Arms and Carrah Scardina each had a double and an RBI for the Golden Rams.
Baseball
Beaver 9, Highlands 2 – Ty Butler went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs to lead Beaver (3-2) to a nonsection win. Brady Mayo had two hits and two runs scored and Derek Hughes doubled for the Bobcats. Kristian Kocon doubled and drove in a run for Highlands (1-4).
Laurel 8, West Middlesex 5 – Kolston Carson had two hits and an RBI to lead Laurel (3-0) to a nonsection win. Tyler Shearer and Brayden Faulkner also had two hits apiece for the Spartans. Tyler Blankton singled, doubled and drove in a pair for West Middlesex.
South Allegheny 3, McKeesport 2 – Ryan Cortes singled with two outs in the eighth and eventually scored on an error as South Allegheny (5-1) picked up a nonsection win. Josh Jackowski singled and drove in a run for the Gladiators (0-3). Brayden Lindsey walked twice, stolen two bases and scored twice for McKeesport ().
