Franklin Regional’s Kegerreis brothers made a lasting impression when they played for the Panthers.

When the team needed an extra-base hit, maybe a home run, they often came through.

While both went off to play college baseball, they redirected their path at the next level.

Freshman Louie Kegerreis, who hit .562 and scord 27 runs as a senior, went from the Division I to junior-college level and, as one might expect, is producing.

He is playing at Lackawanna, located in Scranton.

Through 21 games, the redshirt freshman was leading the Falcons with a .408 batting average, seven home runs and 32 RBIs.

Kegerreis, who had a five-RBI game against Sullivan Community College, transferred from Delaware.

Meanwhile, Tommy Kegerreis was hitting .258 in 21 games for the Wheeling Cardinals with two homers, 18 RBIs and nine runs scored. He had four multi-hit games in his second season with the team since transferring from Westmoreland County Community College.

Roundball Classic

Three Franklin Regional basketball players were selected to the Roundball Classic all-star games set for May 23-26 at North Allegheny.

Cam Rowell and Cooper Rankin will play for the Class 5A Gold team vs. Class 6A at 7 p.m. on May 25.

Angelina Brush, meantime, will suit up for the Class 5A Silver team, which will take on a team of Class 4A/City League girls at 4 p.m. on May 26.

Hot streak

The Franklin Regional baseball team ran its winning streak to four with a doubleheader sweep of Gateway.

In the opener, the Panthers scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to win, 4-3. Cole Brinker had a triple and two RBIs, while NJ Ramchandran struck out 10 and allowed just two hits to earn the pitching win.

In a rout in Game 2, Franklin Regional scored 16 times in the fourth inning on the way to a 21-0 victory. Blake Bertucci had three RBI and three runs scored, Luke Williams scored four times and Darren DeRiggi and Brady Yarabinetz each drove in three.

Softball wins

The Franklin Regional softball team held back Mars for a 10-9 victory to even its record at 3-3.

Iyarah Hicks had a career-high four RBIs, Toryn Fulton went 2 for 2 with a double and a triple, Ciara Camacho added a triple and two RBIs, and C.C. Copeland had the game-winning hit for the Panthers.

Tennis singles

Prem Nadasen and Colin Stalnaker of Franklin Regional reached the semifinals of the Section 1-3A boys tennis single tournament, but both lost to move into the third-place consolation match.

Therem Stalnaker won, 6-0, 6-4, but both players advanced to the WPIAL tournament.

Moe soccer games

For the first time, the Moe Rosensteel Kickoff Classic soccer showcase will feature a boys matchup.

The four-game event will be Aug. 24 at Ringgold’s Joe Montana Stadium in Monongahela.

There will be three girls games: Thomas Jefferson vs. Franklin Regional, Hickory vs. Ringgold and Avonworth vs. Latrobe followed by the Elizabeth Forward and Ringgold boys.

Times have not been announced.
