Penn-Trafford notebook: Patton Graziano, MacKenzie Keenan named Scholar-Athlete Award nominees

Penn-Trafford seniors Patton Graziano and MacKenzie Keenan were the school’s nominees for the Westmoreland County Scholar-Athlete Excellence Award and awere among 12 finalists.

Graziano was a two-time PIAA medalist in swimming and a WPIAL Class 3A 100-yard freestyle champion.

Keenan was an outstanding softball and field hockey player.

Penn-Trafford boys lacrosse stays hot

The Warriors’ boys lacrosse team has won four consecutive games and eight of its last nine following recent wins against Latrobe (14-8), Baldwin (17-1) and Greensburg Central Catholic (19-3).

The Warriors improved to 10-4 overall and 7-1 in the section.

Penn-Trafford played at Knoch on April 26 and at Gateway on April 30. The Warriors have a key match May 2 at home against Bethel Park.

P-T girls lacrosse moves to 11-1

Penn-Trafford girls lacrosse improved to 11-1 overall following a 13-3 win against Franklin Regional on April 24.

The Warriors have won eight consecutive games.

Penn-Trafford posted recent wins against Hampton (12-6) and Greensburg Salem (25-6).

The Warriors have a busy schedule the next week. They visited Greensburg Central Catholic on April 29 and Oakland Catholic on April 30. They come home to play Latrobe on May 1 and Indiana on May 2.

They conclude the regular season with a home game against Winchester Thurston on May 6 when they will celebrate senior night.

Two Legion teams planned

There will be two American Legion baseball teams for players in the Penn-Trafford School District this summer — Bushy Run and Trafford.

The teams will both share the high school field during league play.

Scott Peyman will still manage the Bushy Run squad, while Brian Lenart will coach Trafford.

Penn Township will also field a Junior Legion team this season.
