Jeannette coaches

Jeannette is primed to hire Jenna (Cole) Lusby as its girls basketball coach, according to the board agenda for Monday’s meeting.

Lusby was a standout at Norwin and also excelled in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference for two teams, Pitt-Greensburg and La Roche.

She trains basketball players and is active in AAU.

She works as an adult probation officer in Westmoreland County.

Jeannette also will vote to add three football assistants to coach Tommy Paulone’s staff.

One is Yough all-time rusher Duston Shoaf, along with Brad Fenton and former Jeannette player Seth Spino.

Well e-Quipped

Belle Vernon will get quite a welcome to Class 4A football in the fall.

The Leopards, winners of back-to-back WPIAL and PIAA championships in 3A, will open the season at Aliquippa against the Quips at Heinz Field.

“We get a great test of a loaded team early,” Belle Vernon coach Matt Humbert said.

Belle Vernon will scrimmage West Allegheny in Week Zero.
