Our final WPIAL Girls Basketball Top 10 rankings of the season is not really a true rankings, just like the WPIAL Steering Committee doesn’t truly rank the teams when putting the brackets together. Sure, the top eights teams are according to perceived rankings, but then a lot of what follows the rest of the way is more fill in the blanks to avoid teams from the same section meeting in Round One.

Throw in Preliminary Round games like we’ll see in Class AAA and Class AA, and then you really have to dance around to avoid Preliminary and First Round games against teams from the same section.

The First Round seed matchups break out this way in this order.

#1 vs #16
#8 vs #9
#4 vs #13
#5 vs #12
#2 vs #15
#7 vs #10
#3 vs #14
#6 vs #11

The matchups for the Preliminary Round work out this way in a 21-team tourney like Class AA is this season.

#16 vs #17 for 16th-seed
#15 vs #18 for 15th-seed
#14 vs #19 for 14th-seed
#13 vs #20 for 13th-seed
#12 vs #21 for 12th-seed

So here are the MSA Sports rankings/seedings for the 2016 Path to the Pete. Find out the actual brackets by tuning in for the Basketball Playoff Pairings Show at 7:00pm only on the MSA Sports Network.
