One of the busiest high school football Saturday’s in the WPIAL took place on the seventh Saturday thanks to Homecoming festivities at Ambridge, Shady Side Academy, Beaver and Burgettown high schools. Plus normal Saturday action at Summit Academy, Riverview and Western Beaver gave us plenty to choose from when ‘Stretching’ for the starz of the day.

Patrick Minenok – New Castle

It has been a long season for both New Castle and Ambridge as the two were a combined 2-10 overall coming in, but a Saturday victory would keep the winner in control of their own destiny in the Class AAA Parkway Conference. NeCa High running back Daylyn Glenal rushed for 120 yards and scored on touchdown runs of 3, 1 and 13 yards and returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score as the Red Hurricane beat the host Bridgers 45-40.

James Duchi – McGuffey

Milestones are so much sweeter when accomplished in a victory and during a lengthy win streak. McGuffey running back James Duchi’s sweet tooth was satisfied Saturday when he rushed for 159 yards and scored the icing on the cake touchdown from 10-yards out, giving him 4,014 career rushing yards as the Highlanders blanked the host Burgettstown Blue Devils in a Class AA Interstate Conference fray 35-0 for a sixth straight win.

Darius Wise – Beaver

The final game of the weekend produced the biggest rushing game on the day. Super sophomore quarterback Darius Wise of Beaver did it all on both sides of the ball by rushing for 197 yards and four touchdowns on runs of 1, 23, 72 and 30 yards, plus added a fifth touchdown with a 36-yard interception return to the house as the Bobcats knocked off visiting Laurel Spartans 40-7 in a Class AA Midwestern Athletic Conference tilt.

Dalton Cleckley – Beaver Falls

Beaver Falls was not caught looking ahead to a pair of Week 8 and Week 9 showdowns in the Class AA Midwestern Athletic Conference as they took care of business on a sunny Saturday at the Summit Academy. Another super sophomore quarterback, Dalton Cleckley hit on 5 of 6 passes for 168 yards with a 38-yard touchdown pass to get the ball rolling in the Tigers 49-8 rout of the Knights.

Lewis Berry IV – Shady Side Academy

Shady Side Academy running back Louis Berry not only was the table setter, but he also enjoyed his meal, eating up plenty of yards all afternoon. Big runs by Berry set up some early scores, then the young man with the roman numerals in his name scored on a 51-yard touchdown as part of his 155 yards rushing as the Indians cruised past the West Shamokin Wolves 28-13 in a Class AA Allegheny Conference contest.
