Lincoln Park Comes Up Short Again in State Class A Boys Title Bid

The Philadelphia Constitution Generals made their first trip to Penn State a good one as they defeated the WPIAL champion Lincoln Park Leopards 68-49 in the Class A Boys title tilt. Seniors Savon Goodman and Daiquan Walker dominated the show for the District 12 champions, scoring 27 and 22 points respectively.The win was the fourteenth straight for the Generals.

Lincoln Park fell for the second straight year in the title game, falling to another D-12 school, Math, Civics and Science 70-55. The Leopards saw a ten game winning streak come to an end.

Constitution jumped out to a 7-2 lead, highlighted by a Savon Goodman slam. The Generals extended that lead to 22-11 after one, but went cold in the second, coming up empty on five out of six possessions near the end of the half. Lincoln Park cut the lead to six twice, but missed multiple chances to reduce the deficit.

Daiquan Walker scored on a fast break, he was fouled by Trey Hosack, the three point play, plus a Goodman layup with two seconds left, took the Generals to the locker room up 33-22 at the break.

The Leopards cut the lead to ten on Hosack basket, Constitution jumped the lead up to 16 twice, Lincoln Park suffered a blow when Hosack picked up his third foul with 3:12 left in the third. Lincoln Park fought back again, Antonio Kellum hit a jumper in the lane to cut it to 39-29, but the Generals outscored the Leopards 11-4 the rest of the way , and forced Hosack to the bench with his fourth foul, Constitution led 50-33 after three.

Freshman Akeem King hit back to back buckets to pump the Generals to their biggest lead to that point, 21 points. Again the Leopards tried to mount a comeback, Ryan Skovranko nailed a jumper in the paint, Kellum followed with a three to drop the margin to 54-38, but Walker drove the lane again to stop the momentum.

Lincoln Park tried to make things interesting, Hosack scored on a lay in to make it 56-40, after the teams traded buckets, Skovranko also layed one in, the Leopards came up empty on three straight possessions before Cottrill scored to make it 58-44, Kellum had a chance to make it a twelve point deficit but Goodman swatted that shot and the hopes of Lincoln Park away. 

Goodman added 10 rebounds and four blocks for the Generals, Walker grabbed seven boards and dished out six assists and six steals. Tamir Bolger also had five assists. Constitution was 26 of 72 from the field, but struggled from the line going just 13 of 28. The Generals finish 23-9.

Watson struggled for Lincoln Park in the paint, grabbing 14 rebounds, but was hindered from the field, going just 3 of 11 with just 9 points, but did block 8 shots. Skovranko scored 15 points to lead the Leopards, Hosack scored 14 before fouling out. Lincoln Park ends 26-5

Lincoln Park shot 19 of 54, including 4 of 17 from three, they went to the line only 8 times, making 7. The Generals won the battle of the boards 47-42. Lincoln Park committed 29 turnovers, Constitution was not much better, turning the ball over 17 times.
