MSA Sports Saturday’s Scholastic Starz – Week Four

Saturday of Week Four of the 2010 WPIAL football season was a busy one with five Class A tilts, plus one football fray from both Class AA and Class AAA. Here are the high-five salutes as we closed the door on another weekend of high school football in District 7.

Sam Kwidis – Ambridge

Something had to give as Elizabeth Forward visited Ambridge in a Class AAA non-conference battle of winless teams. Sam Kwidis made sure the field would tilt the way of the host Bridgers as he rushed for 161 yards and scored two touchdowns in a 30-14 victory over the Warriors.

Delrece Williams – Steel Valley

It became apparent early that whether he ran left, ran right or took it up the middle, Steel Valley tailback was going to run and run a lot. Williams rushed for 273 yards and scored four touchdowns including runs of 73 and 42 yards in only two and a half quarters of action as the Ironmen blasted the Burgettstown Blue Devils 53-14.

Joe Jurocik and Kyle Taylor – Serra Catholic

The WPIAL's final game of the weekend turned out to be possibly the wildest as a pair of Class A Black Hills Conference winless teams. Leading the way were Joe Jurocik and Kyle Taylor of Serra Catholic. Jurocik gained 175 yards and scored two touchdowns while Taylor scored three touchdowns, including a trend setting 87-yard return on the games opening kickoff as the Eagles flew by the Bentworth Bearcats 55-46.

Martin Long – North Catholic

In a battle between two of the top teams in the Class A Eastern Conference, the North Catholic quarterback went a Long way to bringing home a third victory in four weeks. Martin Long was 13 of 16 passing for 151 yards in the air, plus he rushed for 113 yards with three scoring runs in the Trojans 21-7 win over the Riverview Raiders.

Wilkinsburg Tigers – Rasheed Howard

Wilkinsburg High School captured their 499th high football victory in school history on October 24th…2008. Over a year later, #500 finally has come for the Tigers. Quarterback Rasheed Howard passed for over 180 yards and two touchdowns plus he rushed for 152 yards and two more scores, including the game winner in the fourth quarter as Wilkinsburg edged the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Chargers 26-21. Wilkinsburg becomes the 18th school in WPIAL history to reach 500 wins.
