To win on Friday night, it takes a lot of things to go your way…It helps when you are looking for victory, to dial up a long distance scoring play…These four teams hit big this past week to feel like The Boss…Because their plays of the week helped keep them perfect and without a loss.
North Allegheny Tigers 21 – Erie McDowell Trojans 10
The North Allegheny Sports Networks Randy Gore and Rick Meister on the call
A battle of the unbeatens in Class AAAA’s Northern Seven Conference was a back and forth battle filled with big plays in the shadows of Lake Erie. But the final big play turned out to be the haymaker delivered by North Allegheny running back Alex Papson, as he scored on a 74-yard run that clinched the Tigers 4-0 start with a 21-10 victory over the McDowell Trojans.
Knoch Knights 40 – Fox Chapel Foxes 21
WISR-AM 680’s Scott Briggs
On your undefeated through four weeks WPIAL poll before the season, there weren’t many folks clamoring to claim Knoch. However they improved to 4-0 thanks to quarterback Kyler Kenyon’s four scoring passes, capped by an 80-yard touchdown strike to Dakota Bruggeman as the Knights knocked off the Quad-A Fox Chapel Foxes 40-21.
Aliquippa Quips 53 – Freedom Bulldogs 6
WMBA-AM 1460’s Jim Frederick and Bruce Frey on the call
Second-ranked Aliquippa scored early and often in this Class AA Midwestern Conference fray, as they jumped on visiting Freedom to the tune of 46-0 by halftime. It was the very first volley that set the tone early on as quarterback Mikal Hall hit Haetaun Mathis on a 43-yard scoring strike as the Quips improved to 4-0 with an easy 53-6 rout of the Bulldogs.
Rochester Rams 35 – Sto-Rox Vikings 32
WBVP-AM 1230’s Bob Barrickman and Tom Hays on the call
When Kaylan Kenney returned the opening kickoff 84-yard for a touchdown, it looked like 2nd-ranked Rochester would cruise against 4th-ranked Sto-Rox in a battle of unbeatens in Class A’s Big Seven Conference. But it took a late scoring run by Jasson Adamson of 17-yards to seal the Rams 35-32 win over the Vikings with bookend big plays in the big victory.
