ROAD TO HERSHEY – North Allegheny, Clairton, Allentown CC and West Catholic Win 2010 PIAA Football Gold

Good news bad news on Saturday from the 2010 PIAA Football Championships in Hershey. North Allegheny won their second PIAA Quad A championship with a 21-0 blanking of LaSalle College. It was not so good for the South Fayette Lions as they were handled by District 12 champion West Catholic 50-14. On Friday, it was a split day for the Vikings. Taylor Riverside lost a close high scoring game to Clairton in Class A, but Allentown Central Catholic finished an undefeated season with a tight high scoring win in the Class AAA game over Bishop McDevitt.

In winning the PIAA Class A championship, the Bears have now won 31 consecutive games, three straight WPIAL crowns and two consecutive state titles. Clairton also becomes only the third current WPIAL school in any classification to win back-to-back PIAA football championships. Rochester did it in 2000 and 2001 while Thomas Jefferson captured state gold in 2007 and 2008.
