Trinity Bags WPIAL Team Rifle Crown

After finishing as runner-up a year ago, the Trinity Hillers are celebrating the schools 17th title after winning the 2011 WPIAL Team Rifle Championship on Tuesday at the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen's Club in Canonsburg.

Trinity fired a score of 800-70x to finish ahead of second place Woodland Hills, which shot a 799-67x. McGuffey was third with 798-66x, while Hempfield finished in fourth place ahead of Avella via tiebreaker after both shot 798-60x.

The Hillers top eight shooters were Shelby Staggers, who had one of six 100-10xs in the tournament. Emily Winkelvoss, Kayla Huffman, Lexie McFarland and Aaron Shuba fired 100-9x. Tyler Miller, Tanner McFarland and Emma Uchida shot 100-8x.

Defending WPIAL Individual champion Chelsea Fonner of Trinity dropped a point for the first time this season. She will defend her crown Thursday back at the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen's Club.

The title is the Hillers second championship in three years and 10th crown since 1994.
