Sophomore Dani Iannuzzo scored the game’s only goal off a corner kick from senior Alyssa Victor in the 73rd minute, and Norwin’s girls soccer team captured its first state championship in any sport since 1996 with a 1-0 victory over Neshaminy Friday evening at Hersheypark Stadium.
Senior goalkeeper Sam Wexell made five saves for the Knights (21-2-1), who had not been to the PIAA finals in 20 years. Her finger-tipped stop at the top of the net with 2:26 left helped repel the District 1 champion Redskins (19-7-1), who got 10 saves from their keeper, Riley Springer.
The Knights were expecting a fire truck and police escort from the Irwin interchange of the Turnpike back to the high school.
