All six Fox Chapel golfers advanced at the WPIAL Section 4-AAA boys golf qualifier Sept. 18, at Willowbrook Golf Club.

The group was led by Gregor Meyer, who finished third with a 72. Scott Bitar shot a 75, Grant Thiele and Aidan Oehrle each posted a 76 followed by Andrew Friend at 77 and Amani Dambrosio at 79.

“It's quite an accomplishment,” FC coach Bryan Deal said. “We also qualified six golfers last year.”

They were scheduled to compete at Tuesday's WPIAL semifinals.

The Foxes lost to Pine-Richland, 191-202, on Sept. 19 to fall to 9-3 overall and 7-2 in the section. Bitar shot a 38 for the Foxes. They bounced back to defeat Central Catholic, 177-193, on Sept. 21, with Meyer shooting a 33, followed by Friend at 34 and Bitar at 35.

• The Section 8 sectionals were held at Kittanning, and Shady Side Academy had three golfers move on.

Jas Fuhrer was third with a 76, with Brice Delaney finishing fifth at 78 and Adam Lauer coming in eighth with an 80.

SSA then defeated Knoch in a Section 8-AAA match Sept. 20, 196-211. Jas Fuhrer led the Indians with a 37, followed by Patrick Ellis, Frankie Fuhrer and Delaney at 39 and Nick Sawicki with a 42.

Girls golf

Shady Side Academy rolled to a 207-264 win over Shaler on Sept. 19, with Alexandra Muracca pacing the Indians with a 44.

The Section 4-AAA qualifier was held Sept. 20. Muracca qualified with an 81. Fox Chapel's Hannah Conroy also made the cut by posting an 84.

Girls tennis

Fox Chapel slipped past Shady Side Academy, 3-2, on Sept. 20 to clinch the Section 3-AAA championship. The Foxes swept the singles as Amanda Nord defeated SSA's Elle Santora, Charlotte James beat Aya Youssef and Kristen Friday won over Isha Reddy.

In doubles, SSA won both matches. Paige Golden/Ariana Goitz swept Molly Weise/Emily Fera, and Kirsten Kann/Lauren Davies won in straight sets over Amanda Schilcher and Molly Dean.

The Foxes (16-1) beat Sewickley Academy, 4-1, on Sept. 22 with Nord, James and Friday victorious in singles and Schilcher/Dean winning in doubles.

Girls soccer

Shady Side Academy edged Apollo-Ridge, 3-2, on Sept. 18 in a Section 1-A matchup. SSA's goals were scored by Krystyna Rytel, Callie Davis and Sophie McMahon.

“Apollo-Ridge has a strong team,” SSA coach Leah Powers said. “We didn't come out with the intensity that we needed to.

“We were down two goals early in the first half. I think that our skill, fitness and determination played a role in our comeback. I was thrilled with the way that our girls fought to get the win.”

SSA entered the week 3-1 in the section and 3-2 overall.

Football

For the second time this season, Fox Chapel lost in the final 30 seconds as Upper St. Clair scored with 19 seconds left to post a 28-24 Class 5A Allegheny Nine win.

Foxes QB Nick Gizzo had given his team a 24-21 lead earlier in the quarter on a 13-yard run. Gizzo finished with 109 yards rushing and also completed 11 of 19 passes for 187 yards.

The Foxes also got touchdowns from Shane Susmak on a 1-yard run and Chase Villani on a 19-yard run. Andrew Jeffrey booted a 27-yard field goal and three PATS. The Foxes fell to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

They will face Moon (3-2, 3-1) on Friday. The Tigers beat North Hills, 38-31, last Friday.
