The Hempfield girls volleyball team's hopes of returning to the PIAA tournament fell short Saturday.

The Spartans lost 3-0 to 2016 champion Seneca Valley in the WPIAL Class AAAA consolation match at Baldwin.

Seneca Valley will join WPIAL champion North Allegheny and runner-up Armstrong in the PIAA tournament, which begins Tuesday.

Hempfield, the No. 12 seed, finished the season 10-6.
