First place is up for grabs Wednesday in Class AAA, Section 2B.
Peters Township will host Mt. Lebanon at 7:30 p.m., with the winner likely claiming the sub-section title.
The Indians enter the match 3-0 in section action, while Mt. Lebanon is tied with Upper St. Clair at 2-1. The Blue Devils lost to USC, 39-28, earlier this season.
Peters Township has posted victories over Upper St. Clair, Baldwin at Bethel Park.
Mt. Lebanon, which is 4-1 overall, has posted wins over Bethel Park and Montour.
Luke Stout leads the Blue Devils with a 13-2 record. He is ranked No. 3 at 160 pounds by the Tribune-Review.
Teammate Nathaniel Hoaglund (16-3) is the No. 3-ranked heavyweight.
Peters Township is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Tri-County Athletic Directors Association tournament at Trinity on Saturday.
Bryce Wilkes (113), Coltin Jezioro (152) and Donovan McMillion (132) all finished second in their weight classes. Brandon Mathews (160), Jeff Markert (182) and Luke Mary (170) were all third.
Small schools meet for big matchup
It’s a slow night for boys basketball, but Monessen visits Jeannette for an intriguing nonsection matchup. Jeannette (5-1) is ranked third in Class 2A, while Monessen (2-5) is fifth in Class A.
Tipoff is 8 p.m.
The two small-school contenders met three years ago in the WPIAL Class A finals. Monessen won 73-57.
Realignment process continues
The WPIAL cross country and track committees meet Wednesday to establish the section alignments for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years. Each district in the PIAA realigns teams every two years based on new enrollment numbers in grades 9-11.
The new sections won’t be revealed until the WPIAL board of directors meets Jan. 15.
