High school roundup for Jan. 23: Fox Chapel avenges loss to No. 4 Woodland Hills

The Fox Chapel boys basketball team turned the tables on No. 4-ranked Woodland Hills.
The Foxes lost by 15 points to the Wolverines on Dec. 19, but it was a different story in Tuesday's Section 3-6A rematch.
Carson Cohen recorded a game-high 24 points as Fox Chapel toppled Woodland Hills, 70-47.
With the win, the Foxes improved to 12-4 overall and moved into a third-place tie with Latrobe at 6-3. Woodland Hills fell to 13-3, 7-2 in section play.
Domanic McGriff tallied 23 points for Fox Chapel, and Ben Kelly added 15. The Foxes led 18-8 after the first quarter and 37-19 at halftime.
Amante Britt led Woodland Hills with 19 points.
Central Catholic 62, North Hills 50 — Cole Mason scored 21 points as Central Catholic (8-6, 7-1) won a Section 1-6A contest.
Pine-Richland 70, North Allegheny 57 — Phil Jurkovec and Greg Shulkosky each had 14 points to lead No. 3 Pine-Richland (13-3, 6-1) to a Section 1-6A win. The Rams pulled ahead with a 24-10 run in the second quarter.
Curtis Aiken tallied 27 points for North Allegheny (5-9, 3-5).
Bethel Park 49, Upper St. Clair 38 — Ryan Meis' 26 points sparked Bethel Park (10-5, 6-2) to a Section 2-6A victory. Meis was 7 for 7 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and 12 of 13 for the game.
Peters Township 62, Connellsville 50 — Colin Cote had 20 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead Peters Township (5-10, 1-7) to a Section 2-6A win.
Hempfield 47, Plum 46 — Braden Brose scored 24 points as Hempfield (5-11, 2-7) won in Section 3-6A. The Spartans snapped a five-game losing streak. Lamar Whiting had 26 points for Plum (5-11, 0-9).
Latrobe 70, Penn-Trafford 55 — The Wildcats used a 23-7 run to take control during a Section 3-6A victory over visiting Penn-Trafford. Bryce Butler had 22 points, Reed Fenton added 20 and Jason Armstrong tallied 14 for Latrobe (11-5, 6-3).
Kevin Stinelli had 18 points and Chris Abreu and Zach Rocco each had 10 for the Warriors (6-11, 3-6).
Penn Hills 67, Norwin 54 — Cameron Wiley had 14 points and Daivon Stephens scored 10 as No. 2-ranked Penn Hills (16-1, 8-1) won in Section 3-6A. The Indians opened the game on an 18-4 run.
Josh Ratesic had 18 points for Norwin (9-7, 4-5).
McKeesport 83, Trinity 72 — Terron Taylor had 34 points and Layton Jordan added 22 as No. 5 McKeesport (8-6, 6-1) picked up a Section 1-5A win. Dylan Kern had 23 points and Joey Koroly added 20 for No. 2 Trinity (12-4, 6-2).
Moon 50, Chartiers Valley 48 — Connor Ryan had 18 points to lead No. 3 Moon to a Section 2-5A victory at Chartiers Valley (7-7, 4-3). Joe Pipilo had 20 points for the Colts.
Gateway 61, Kiski Area 36 — John Paul Kromka surpassed 1,000 points for his career and had a triple-double with 21 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks for Gateway (7-7, 4-2) in a Section 3-5A win. Ryne Wallace led Kiski Area (0-15, 0-6) with 14 points.
Deer Lakes 70, Yough 33 — Brad Perrotte set the pace with 16 points as Deer Lakes cruised to a Section 1-4A victory. Jake Kelly added 11 points for the Lancers (7-7, 3-3) and Colin Kadlick also scored 10 points.
Jarett Bach scored 15 points for Yough (2-14, 0-8).
Derry 58, Mt. Pleasant 34 — Conner Watt had 12 points and Justin Huss added 11 as Derry (6-6, 4-3) won a Section 1-4A game over visiting Mt. Pleasant (3-14, 1-6).
Derry led 23-14 at halftime and opened the second half on a 22-8 run.
Central Valley 47, Beaver Falls 46 — Josh Kline had 15 points and Tyler Walker scored 12 as Central Valley (9-5, 5-3) won in Section 2-4A.
Quaker Valley 55, New Castle 46 — Coletrane Washington scored 24 points to guide No. 1 Quaker Valley (12-0, 8-0) to a Section 2-4A season sweep of No. 3 New Castle (10-4, 5-3). Marcus Hooker scored 11 to lead the Red Hurricanes.
Belle Vernon 74, South Park 41 — Belle Vernon finished on a 43-18 run to earn a Section 3-4A victory. Bryce Washington had 17 points to lead the Leopards (11-4, 6-2). Cameron Nusser had 14 points, including four 3-pointers.
Devin Turner scored 18 points for South Park (7-7, 5-4).
Keystone Oaks 66, Waynesburg 59 — Vonte Mitchell had 22 points and Frank Stumpo added 21 as Keystone Oaks (8-8, 5-4) picked up a Section 3-4A victory. Stumpo had 14 points in the first quarter and hit six 3-pointers in the game.
South Fayette 60, Elizabeth Forward 50 — Noah Plack had 17 points to pace South Fayette (9-5, 6-2) in a Section 3-4A victory. Will Greijack had 18 points for Elizabeth Forward (6-10, 2-7).
Uniontown 77, McGuffey 69 — Kam Fitzgerald hit four 3-pointers and had 29 points, and Billy Deshields added 22 points as Uniontown (10-5, 6-2) won in Section 3-4A.
Lincoln Park 77, Mohawk 49 — Keeno Holmes had 23 points and Thomas Melonja added 22 as No. 1 Lincoln Park (9-4, 6-0) rolled to a Section 1-3A win.
Seton LaSalle 77, Avonworth 42 — Jakbo Richardson scored 18 points and George Mike IV had 16 as No. 2 Seton LaSalle (11-3, 6-0) won in Section 2-3A.
Steel Valley 64, Apollo-Ridge 50 — Kyle Fitzroy finished with 17 points, but Apollo-Ridge fell to Steel Valley (8-7, 2-3) in Section 3-3A action. Keighton Reese also scored 10 points for the Vikings (5-8, 1-3).
Beth-Center 79, Southmoreland 64 — Easton McDaniel had 28 points as Beth-Center (5-9, 2-5) won in Section 4-3A. Brett Glowacki and Cade Richter each had 15 points for Southmoreland (4-11, 3-5).
Burgettstown 86, Charleroi 71 — Ryan Lounder scored 24 points and Scott Ferris added 18 as No. 5 Burgettstown (12-3, 7-1) won a Section 4-3A game.
Washington 54, South Side 32 — Isaiah Walton had 22 points as No. 3 Washington (12-3, 8-0) won in Section 4-3A.
Serra Catholic 65, Riverview 53 — Noah Black and De'Marea Hairston scored 17 points apiece for Riverview (2-12, 0-7) in a Section 1 loss to Class 2A No. 4 Serra Catholic (12-2, 5-1). Black connected on four 3-pointers. Khalil Smith led four Serra Catholic players in double figures with 13 points.
Springdale 58, Summit Academy 49 — Dylan Zezza led four Dynamos in double figures with 18 points in a Section 1-2A victory at Summit Academy (2-9, 2-5). Demitri Fritch had 13 points for Springdale (9-4, 5-2) and Josh Harmon and Nick Taliani scored 10 points apiece.
Chartiers-Houston 61, Carmichaels 54 — Cameron Hanley had 22 points to pace No. 5 Chartiers-Houston (12-3, 7-0) in a Section 2-2A win.
Bishop Canevin 65, Northgate 52 — Aidan Logan had 19 points as Bishop Canevin (4-11, 3-6) won a Section 3-2A game.
Laurel 73, Sto-Rox 65 — William Shaffer had 25 points as Laurel (9-6, 5-4) won a Section 3-2A game. Malik Smith had 21 points for Sto-Rox (3-12, 2-7).
OLSH 80, Shenango 57 — Daren DiMichele had 34 points and Donovan Johnson added 22 as No. 1 OLSH (14-1, 9-0) won in Section 3-2A.
Sewickley Academy 74, Neshannock 56 — Led by Jett Roesing's 25 points, No. 2 Sewickley Academy (10-3, 6-2) scored a Section 3-2A victory. Roesing had seven 3-pointers. Isiah Warfield had 16 points and Isaiah Smith added 14 for the Panthers.
Cornell 74, Western Beaver 32 — Kaden Divito and Desmond Ross each scored 26 points as Cornell (11-4, 5-2) won in Section 1-A.
Monessen 73, Avella 22 — Lyndon Henderson had 23 points, and Cory Fleming added 13, including three 3-pointers, as No. 2 Monessen (5-7, 4-0) won in Section 2-A.
Eden Christian Academy 51, Winchester Thurston 49 — Chase Haring had 24 points to guide Eden Christian Academy (11-2, 5-1) to a Section 3-A win. Dusan Krivokapic had 24 points for Winchester Thurston (4-6, 2-3).
Imani Christian 82, St. Joseph 60 — Andrew Sullivan scored a game-high 25 points, but St. Joseph dropped a Section 3-A contest to Imani Christian (8-7, 6-0). Grant Bendis scored 22 points for St. Joseph (4-11, 1-5).
Girls basketball
Latrobe 62, Penn-Trafford 42 — Laura Graytok had 21 points to lift No. 4 Latrobe (13-2, 6-0) to a Section 2-6A win. Shelby Wetzel had 14 points for the Wildcats, who opened the game on a 22-4 run.
Stephanie O'Donnell had 17 points for Penn-Trafford (7-9, 3-4).
Norwin 64, Penn Hills 47 — Olivia Gribble had 19 points, Magen Polczynski scored 17 and Jayla Wehner tallied 16 as Norwin (7-8, 5-2) won a Section 2-6A game. Gribble (5), Wehner (4) and Polczynski (3) all were on target from behind the arc.
Ariana Dunson scored 16 points and Adia Brisker had 15 for Penn Hills (8-7, 2-4), which trailed 32-17 at halftime.
Chartiers Valley 64, Moon 38 — In Section 1-5A, Megan McConnell had 23 points and Mackenzie Wagner scored 14 as Chartiers Valley (10-6, 4-2) earned a win.
Gateway 48, Thomas Jefferson 47 (2OT) — Jordan Edwards had 19 points, including the game-winning free throw in double overtime as Gateway (12-3, 4-2) earned a Section 2 win over Class 5A No. 2 Thomas Jefferson (13-3, 5-1).
Jenna Clark had 15 points for the Jaguars.
Kiski Area 42, Plum 33 — Harley Holloway scored a game-high 16 points for Kiski Area (6-11, 2-6), which swept the season series with Plum (4-13, 2-6) with a Section 4-5A victory. Violeta Kenzevich added 10 points for the Cavaliers. Kelsi Zik and Kennedie Montue scored 11 points apiece for the Mustangs.
Belle Vernon 64, Laurel Highlands 37 — Keira Boff had 19 points as Belle Vernon (13-4) won a nonsection game.
Charleroi 55, Chartiers-Houston 50 — Kaitlyn Riley had 18 points as Charleroi (14-2) won a nonsection game.
Alexa Williamson had 34 points for Class 2A No. 5 Chartiers-Houston (11-5).
Lincoln Park 48, Carlynton 47 — Riley Arrigo had 17 points as Lincoln Park (7-9) won a nonsection game.
Blairsville 64, Ligonier Valley 21 — Catherine Martin had 19 points to lead Blairsville (14-2, 10-0) to a District 6 Heritage Conference win. Mackenzie Jester scored nine points for Ligonier Valley (7-8, 2-6).
