Herald roundup: Fox Chapel track teams compete at Butler Invitational

The Fox Chapel track and field team split in its meet with Pine-Richland on April 16, with the boys winning 95-55, and the girls losing 86-68.

Boys winners were Christian Fitch (800 and 1,600), Korey Simmons (110 hurdles), Evan Kieffer (400), Andrew Jeffrey (200), Seth Bowman (shot put, discus), Ben Kronman (triple jump), Cole Waxter (long jump) and Greg Overbeck (3,200).

Posting wins for the girls were Sarena Seeger (800 and 1,600), Caelan Miller (3,200). Eras Yager (shot put) and Yezzi Chaudry (discus).

The Foxes then competed in the Butler Invitational on April 20. The Foxes had several top-eight medalists.

For the girls, Caelan Miller finished in sixth place in the 1,600, Kate Carnevale was third in the 100 and Sarena Seeger took sixth in the 3,200.

The girls 3,200 relay team of Annika Urban, Brooke Krally, Grace Sisson and Seeger finished eighth, and the 1,600 team of Abby Baldauf, Maddy Kieffer, Miller and Carolyn Veith came in sixth.

On the boys side, Christian Fitch claimed second in the 3,200, and Dom McGriff was eighth in the triple jump.

The 400 relay team of Wonho Kang, Waxter, Kronman and Jeffrey finished fifth to also claim a medal.

Boys tennis

Fox Chapel boys tennis overpowered Chartiers Valley, 5-0, in the first round of the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs April 18. The Foxes lost only two games in the five matches. In singles, Robby Shymansky, Jared Nord and Milo Baron won. Doubles winners were Kurran Singh/Jay Kashyap and Brandon Wei and Karsten Lagerquist.

Top-seeded Fox Chapel upped its record to 11-0.

Boys lacrosse

Shady Side Academy boys lacrosse overcame a 3-0 third-quarter deficit to edge Mt. Lebanon, 4-3, on April 16. Eric Evenson scored twice, with Colm O'Connor and Jack Naughton also scoring.

Girls lacrosse

Fox Chapel girls lacrosse suffered its first loss of the season April 19 — a 12-11 overtime decision to Peters Township. Kate Goodwin scored seven goals in the loss, followed by Mary Ellis with a goal and four assists, Marissa Hardiman with a pair of goals and Makenna Blazer with a goal. Goalie Hannah Humes stopped 11 shots.

Fox Chapel (7-1) also came out on top in a neighborhood rivalry game against Shady Side Academy on April 16, 11-7. Goodwin scored five goals and also had an assist. Ellis contributed a goal and three assists, followed by Blazer with two goals, Hardiman with a goal and an assist and Sarah Sinnott and Margeaux Essey with a goal apiece. Humes had four saves in goal.
