Norwin’s Jack Salopek earned the starting quarterback job last season as a sophomore.

He has found his way onto college coaches radars with similar swiftness.

Salopek on Tuesday picked up his first Division I scholarship offer, from Pitt.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound rising junior slinger played in 11 games last season for the Knights (5-6). He passed for 1,827 yards with eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

He finished 140 of 261.

“We’re excited for him,” Norwin coach Dave Brozeski said. “He has the skills and, more importantly, the work ethic, to be a very good QB. I’m excited to see what the 2018 season has in store.”

Brozeski said he believes Pitt has “had their eye on” Salopek but the quarterback “performed well on the camp circuit.”

Salopek, who threw for 236 yards against Bethel Park and 256 against Canon-McMillan, also hinted that the offer was just a matter of time.

“They have always told me I was their No. 1 QB and were just waiting to get a 2019 QB commit before they offered me,” he said. “I am so happy someone finally put all their trust in me and it’s even better from my hometown team.

“It means a lot to me and my family.”

Salopek’s brother, Mike, was a Division I athlete. He wrestled at Virginia.

And another brother, T.J., is the all-time leading passer at Allegheny College with 7,897 yards. He has helped to mold Jack’s skills.

Norwin incoming senior Jayvon Thrift, a standout safety, also has an offer from Pitt.
