A torn ACL won’t keep Rachel Martindale from reaching her Division 1 dreams.

The North Allegheny basketball star announced a commitment Tuesday to Akron, a decision that comes only four months after injuring her right knee in the WPIAL Class 6A championship. Martindale, who had a remarkable junior season before the injury, averaged 15 points and was a Trib 10 selection.

The point guard will be a senior this fall.

Martindale originally committed to Pitt as a sophomore to play softball, but reconsidered last fall in favor of basketball.

She was helping North Allegheny win its second consecutive WPIAL title when she was injured late in the championship March 3 at Petersen Events Center. Her Tigers defeated Peters Township, 79-48.
