Agnus Berenato left Western Pennsylvania several years ago, but the former Pitt basketball coach maintains strong recruiting ties here.
Keystone Oaks senior Gillian Piccolino on Wednesday became the latest WPIAL star to commit to Kennesaw State, a Division 1 program near Atlanta where Berenato is entering her third season as coach.
Piccolino chose the Owls over offers from Morehead State, Loyola Marymount and Longwood.
The 5-foot-10 guard averaged 17 points last season for Keystone Oaks, which went 17-6, reached the WPIAL quarterfinals and qualified for the PIAA playoffs.
Piccolino is the fourth player to choose Kennesaw State in recent years and the second from the 2019 class. Chartiers Valley senior Gabi Legister committed to Kennesaw State last August.
Former Blackhawk star Breanna Hoover was a freshman for Berenato last season and recent East Allegheny graduate Amani Johnson will join the team’s roster this winter.
Berenato’s top assistant is Khadija Head, her recruiting coordinator at Pitt from 2010-13. Berenato coached the Panthers for 10 seasons, a tenure that ended in 2013.
