High school roundup for Sept. 11, 2018: Schoedel sets scoring mark at Ringgold

Eli Schoedel’s hat trick carried a little extra significance Tuesday night.
With his penalty kick tally, he became Ringgold’s all-time leading scorer and led the boys soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Albert Gallatin (2-3, 0-2) in a Section 3-3A game.
Schoedel has six goals this season and 57 for his career, surpassing the record held by Tyler Dolanche. Ringgold improved to 2-4 overall and 2-1 in section play.
North Allegheny 3, Central Catholic 1 — Will Cinker scored twice to help No. 1 North Allegheny (4-0, 3-0) win in Section 1-4A.
Seneca Valley 3, Shaler 0 — Austin Myers, Marshall Malin and Keegan McVicker all scored as No. 3 Seneca Valley (4-1, 2-1) won in Section 1-4A.
Mars 6, Indiana 0 — In Section 1-3A, Dane Beller scored three times, and Caden Ferguson added two goals to lead Mars (3-1-1, 3-0) to victory.
South Fayette 3, Gateway 2 — Noah Scheel, Gavin Eldridge and Ethan Bollinger scored as Class 3A No. 5 South Fayette (3-2, 2-1) won in Section 4-3A.
Elizabeth Forward 5, East Allegheny 0 — In Section 1-AA, Andrew Smith and Cody Tworek each scored twice, and Ben Durant earned the shutout as Elizabeth Forward (3-1, 3-0) rolled to victory.
Charleroi 10, Beth-Center 0 — In Section 3-2A, Eben McIntyre, Colin Woytovich, Jase Kepich, Nick Laskey each had two goals as Charleroi (3-0, 3-0) rolled to a win.
Eden Christian Academy 12, Aquinas Academy 3 — Isaac Brazen and Jack Jones each scored twice as Eden Christian Academy (4-1, 2-1) won in Section 3-A.
Bishop Canevin 8, California 0 — Riz Salada and Jack Jenkins each scored twice to lift Bishop Canevin (3-2, 2-0) to a Section 4-A win.
Carlynton 9, New Brighton 3 — Carnel Kerr had six goals to lead Carlynton (4-1) to a nonsection win.
Belle Vernon 4, Trinity 1 — Markello Apodiakos scored twice and set the program record with 70 career goals as Belle Vernon won a Section 3-3A game.
Daniel Sassak and Aaron Brown also scored, and TJ Watson made eight saves for the Leopards (5-1, 2-1).
Penn-Trafford 4, Connellsville 1 — Nate Schlessenger scored twice, and Noah Schlessenger and Tyler Pisarek added goals as Penn-Trafford (2-2, 2-1) earned a Section 3-4A victory. Ethan Price scored for No. 4-ranked Connellsville (4-1, 2-1).
Hempfield 2, Penn Hills 1 — Casey Leonard scored twice, including the game-winner on a breakaway with 26:23 left to lead Hempfield (2-2, 2-1) to a Section 3-4A win.
Norwin 4, Latrobe 2 – Carter Breen scored twice and Zach Ullum and Will Keber also scored, all in the first half, as Norwin (5-1, 3-0) defeated visiting Latrobe (2-2, 2-1) in a Section 3-4A game.
Greensburg Salem 3, Uniontown 2 (2OT) — Ethan Turnbull scored with 1:11 left in the second overtime to give Greensburg Salem (4-0, 3-0) a Section 3-3A victory. Jeremy Kappel had the assist. Turbull also scored in regulation, and Chris Writt added a goal for the Golden Lions.
Franklin Regional 4, Thomas Jefferson 1 — Garrett Beaver, Auston Kranick, Matt Kimmich and Blake Cooper all scored to lead No. 2 Franklin Regional (4-0, 3-0) to a Section 4-3A victory.
Mt. Pleasant 5, Valley 0 — Sam Napper scored three times and added an assist, and Alex Pomarico and Jack Shirley also scored as No. 3 Mt. Pleasant (3-0, 2-0) won in Section 2-2A.
Shane Piper notched the shutout.
Brownsville 3, Yough 1 — Brownsville moved to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in Section 3-2A with a win over host Yough (0-3, 0-3).
Greensburg Central Catholic 10, Geibel 0 — Luke Mort and Nate Ward each scored three times to lead the No. 3 Centurions (2-0, 2-0) to a Section 2-A win.
Laurel Highlands 4, Southmoreland 0 — Southmoreland fell to 1-2 overall after a nonsection loss to Laurel Highlands (4-1).
Highlands 2, Knoch 1 (OT) — Highlands trailed for the majority of its Section 1-AAA game against Knoch, but the Golden Rams came through when it mattered most.
Matt Cekeda tied the score with 13 seconds remaining off an assist from Gabe Norris, and Norris scored a penalty-kick goal seven minutes into overtime to give Highlands a win.
Gabe Anthony made eight saves for the Golden Rams (2-3, 2-1). Jeremiah Smith tallied the goal for Knoch (1-3-2, 0-2-1) four minutes into the first half.
Deer Lakes 3, Burrell 0 – The Class AA No. 4 Lancers (5-0-1, 2-0-1) scored twice in the first half and added a third goal in the 70 th minute in a Section 2-AA victory over the Bucs (0-2-2, 0-2). Nick Caro got Deer Lakes on the board in the 28 th minute, and Colton Spence followed with a score on a penalty kick. Alex Rodgers finished with a goal and an assist, and Jesse Greyshock made two saves in net.
Kiski Area 1, North Hills 0 – Owen Zimmerman scored on a free kick six minutes into the second half to give Kiski Area the victory over North Hills (0-3-1, 0-2-1) in Section 1-AAA play. Ronnie Coleman recorded the assist on the goal. Nicholas Smith recorded four saves to earn the shutout for Kiski Area (2-2, 2-1).
Fox Chapel 1, Allderdice 0 – Tommy Tsai scored on a free kick in the 70 th minute to give Fox Chapel the lead for good in a Section 1-AAA win over Allderdice (0-3, 0-3). Robbie Tabor and Clayton Humbert recorded one save each for Fox Chapel (3-2, 2-1).
Springdale 0, Avonworth 0 (2 OT) — Mike Zolnierczyk recorded 15 saves for No. 5 Springdale (3-0-1, 2-0-1) in a Section 3-A game against Avonworth (4-0-1, 2-0-1). It was Springdale’s fourth shutout of the season.
Vincentian 2, Riverview 1— Christoph Hudack scored on a pass from Sam Dreher in the first half, but Vincentian (1-2, 1-2) came back with two unanswered goals as Riverview (1-2, 0-2) fell to the Royals in a Section 3-A matchup.
Trinity Christian 6, St. Joseph 4— Trailing 4-1 at halftime, the Spartans rallied in the second half and tied the game at 4-4 on an Eli Swierczewski goal before Trinity Christian (3-1, 2-1) scored twice to pick up the Section 2-A win over St. Joseph. Daniel Fábregas scored two goals and added two assists, and Swierczewski also finished with a pair of goals for St. Joseph (0-5, 0-2).

Knoch 5, Armstrong 1 — Lindsie Galbreath had four goals for Knoch (1-2, 1-2) in a Section 1-3A win.
Carlynton 3, Winchester Thurston 0 — Savannah Sevacko scored two goals to guide Carlynton (3-2, 2-1) to a Section 4-A win.
Girls volleyball
Bishop Canevin 3, Burgettstown 0 — Senior hitter Alexa Malloy set Bishop Canevin’s kills record with 621 for her career, as the No. 1 Crusaders rolled to a Section 3-A win.
