In the high school football offseason, the WPIAL realigned and two teams on the move were Shady Side Academy and Summit Academy. The Indians dropped down in classification while the Knights moved up.

Since the start of the new season, both teams have reversed their course with Shady Side Academy on the rise and Summit Academy in a free fall.

The Indians are the highest scoring team in Class 2A, averaging 55 points a game in building a 5-0 record, 3-0 atop the Allegheny Conference.

Summit Academy however has struggled in the move to Class 2A after making the Class A playoffs a year ago.

The Knights have scored only 16 points total in six games, all losses. Summit Academy is 0-3 in conference play.

This first vs. last contest can be heard on the TribLive High School Sports Network Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m.

In search of a win

The only other WPIAL football game Saturday is a Class A nonconference contest at noon.

Something must break when Springdale visits Northgate as both teams have a combined overall mark of 0-11.

It has been well documented the low roster numbers the Flames have had to deal with this season, playing with a season-low 12 players in a loss to Cornell two weeks ago.

In six losses, Northgate has been outscored 232-19.

Things haven’t been much better for Springdale. The Dynamos (0-5) have yet to score a point in three Eastern Conference games and have scored 20 points all season.

Saturday soccer showdown in Greene County

On a busy day of WPIAL girls section soccer, first place in Section 3-2A is up for grabs as defending champion Waynesburg hosts South Park.

The Raiders are 9-1 in section, a half-game ahead of the 8-1 Eagles. Waynesburg’s only section loss came at the hands of South Park, 3-0 last month.

Both teams are 11-2 overall.
