Once again, the undefeated Shady Side Academy (6-0) football team rolled to an easy victory as they cruised to a 47-6 road victory over Summit Academy (0-7). The Indians erupted for 34 second-quarter points to take a 41-0 lead in the Class 2A Allegheny Conference matchup.
Dino Tomlin caught 68- and 70-yard scoring passes from Skyy Moore while Alex Bellinotti scored on runs of 14 and 4 yards. Ivor Wood scored on a 2-yard run, Billy Frohlich snared a 25-yard TD pass from Moore and Mark Appleman ended the SSA scoring with a 1-yard run. Moore led the SSA ground attack with 108 yards on nine carries as the Indians amassed 268 yards rushing.
“We played a very physical team, and coach (Steve) Sheerer does a great job with that group,” SSA coach Chuck DiNardo said. “Our guys were able to put some plays together and find some room to run. Alex Bellinotti did a great job of establishing an offensive tempo and running downhill. He’s a big physical player who is not fun to tackle when he gets a head of steam. My hat goes off to the group of guys that were taking their SAT test just hours before kickoff and were able to refocus and play a game in unfavorable conditions. They truly exemplify what it means to be a student-athlete.”
* Fox Chapel (2-5, 1-3) picked up its second win of the season Oct. 5 with a 45-15 pasting of Connellsville. The Foxes led 25-3 at the half. Sam Brown, who finished with 154 yards rushing on six carries, scored on runs of 11, 1, 4 and 2 yards. Timothy Johnston scored on a 12-yard run while Korey Simmons and Graham Childs hauled in TD passes of 47 and 56 yards respectively from QB Shane Susnak. Susnak completed 10 of 11 passes for 236 yards. Josh Mayer completed 10 of 15 passes for 115 yards. Michael Tarasi added a pair of PATs, and Alejandro Morales converted one.
