Jillian Marvin scored midway through the second half to give Peters Township a 2-1 win against Cumberland Valley in a PIAA Class AAAA quarterfinal at Mansion Park in Altoona.
CeCe Scott scored first goal for the Indians in the 13th minute .
Gina Lukoskie tallied Cumberland Valley’s lone goal in the 34th minute. Peters Township will face Souderton in Tuesday’s semifinals.
Souderton 2, Seneca Valley 1 — Souderton defeated Seneca Valley on penalty kicks, 4-3, in its PIAA Class AAAA quarterfinal win at Chambersburg. Averie Doughty, who scored the deciding penalty kick, also scored Souderton’s goal in regulation in the second half. Norah Seibel scored for Seneca Valley in the first half.
Class AA
South Park 3, Villa Maria 1 — At Slippery Rock, Grace Albitz scored twice to lead South Park to the PIAA Class AA quarterfinal win against Villa Maria. Avery Miklos added the third goal for South Park, who will play Beford in the next round.
Class A
Freedom 6, Wilmington 0 — Myla Sharpless scored twice as Freedom scored three goals in each half to shut out Wilmington at Slippery Rock in the PIAA Class A quarterfinals. Freedom will play Shady Side Academy in the semifinals.
Shady Side Academy 10, Bentworth 0 — Krystyna Rytel scored four goals, and Callie Davis added two goals and three assists as Shady Side Academy shut out Bentworth in the PIAA Class A quarterfinals. Autumn Casey added two goals for Shady Side Academy, and Melissa Riggins and Sophia McMahon tallied one each.
Boys soccer
Class AAA
West Allegheny 3, Hershey 1 — Nate Dragisich scored twice late in the first half, and Evan Blunkosky added a second-half goal to help lead West Allegheny (21-2) past District 3 champion Hershey. The win puts the WPIAL runner-up Indians in Tuesday’s PIAA semifinals and into a rematch against district champion Franklin Regional.
Class AA
Shady Side Academy 7, Mercyhurst Prep 5 — Shady Side Academy (14-6-1) put up five first-half goals and hung to pick up the win over District 10 second-place finisher Mercyhurst Prep (19-3-1). Wally Navid netted a hat trick, and Max Farner and Adrian Beckford both added a pair of goals.
Prep came back with a strong second half and closed the score to 6-5 before Navid scored on a penalty kick late in the second half. Shady Side Academy advances to Tuesday’s PIAA semifinals to face against rival Deer Lakes. The Lancers knocked off Quaker Valley 2-1 to advance. Both teams played to a 1-1-1 record this season with the Indians knocking the Lancers out of the WPIAL postseason with 1-0 win in the semifinals.
Class A
Avonworth 2, Rockwood 1 — Owen North converted a penalty kick with 6:51 remaining to keep WPIAL champion Avonworth (22-0-1) unbeaten with a victory in a PIAA Class A quarterfinal at Peters Township.
Mario Calderone gave Rockwood (20-3) an early lead with a goal with 13:37 left in the first half. Luke Wagner tied it for the Antelopes with 13:34 left in the second half.
Avonworth will get a WPIAL finals rematch with Greensburg Central Catholic (19-2) on Tuesday in the state semifinals.
Girls volleyball
Class AAAA
North Allegheny 3, State College 1 — The WPIAL champion Tigers downed District 6 champ State College to stay undefeated. North Allegheny (21-0) won with set scores of 23-25, 25-15, 25-19 and 25-14. North Allegheny will move on thesemifinals to face District 1 runner-up Garnet Valley on Tuesday at a site and time to be determined. Garnet Valley downed Cumberland Valley 3-0 to advance.
Class AAA
Warren 3, Thomas Jefferson 0 — Warren defeated Thomas Jefferson in straight sets to advance in the PIAA Class AAA quarterfinals at Punxsutawney. Warren, which picked up set wins of 25-19, 25-23, 25-21, will face Knoch in the semifinals.
