Ambridge, Quaker Valley rematch on final Friday of boys basketball schedule

We’ve reached the final Friday of the boys basketball regular season.
However, Section 2 in Class 4A is still far from decided with Quaker Valley (17-2, 9-2), New Castle (15-4, 9-2) and Ambridge (13-7, 8-2) virtually tied for first.
There’s a crucial matchup Friday when Quaker Valley visits Ambridge at 7:30 p.m. The Bridgers defeated the Quakers, 72-67, in double overtime when the teams played Jan. 15.
On Saturday, New Castle visits Ambridge to complete the section schedule.

Also on Friday’s schedule is a first-place matchup between Cornell (18-3, 11-2) and Vincentian Academy (13-7, 11-2) with the Section 1-A title on the line.
Cornell won 84-75 when the team played Jan. 15. They’ll rematch at Vincentian Academy.

McDowell visits Pine-Richland
Erie McDowell sophomore William Jeffress, considered one of the nation’s top basketball players, will visit Pine-Richland on Friday. McDowell and its 6-foot-6 small forward will face the host Rams at 7:30 p.m.
Rivals ranks Jeffress as the 13th-best recruit in the country in the 2021 graduating class.
McDowell already played WPIAL teams Butler, Bethel Park and Mt. Lebanon this season.
PIAA team wrestling
The PIAA wrestling team tournament continues Friday in Hershey with quarterfinal and semifinal rounds.
In Class AAA, both Kiski Area and Seneca Valley advanced to the quarters. In Class AA, Burrell remained in competition for a state title.
