Maples Win! Maples Win!

Mapletown High School FINALLY has something to celebrate on the athletic field. We have seen long losing streaks by schools in various sports, but Friday nights victory for the Maples over the West Greene Pioneers 43-28 was not only the first victory of the year for the boys basketball team, it was the first win for Mapletown this school year in ANY sport.

Offense hasn't been a problem for the Norwin boys' basketball team in recent years. Over the past three seasons, the Knights have averaged 68, 68 and 62 points a game. But Norwin has taken offense to a totally different level this season. When it comes to scoring, these are definitely good Knights.

Running for 4,000 career yards isn't as rare as it used to be. Forty-seven players have done it in WPIAL history, and 40 of them have reached the mark since 1990. But when North Allegheny's Alex Papson reached 4,000 yards last week, it was a rare feat, at least when you consider the competition.

Ellwood City Looking For Basketball Coach
August 14, 2010
The Ellwood City School Board accepted the resignation of Jason Bumblis on Thursday. Bumblis served the last three seasons at Lincoln High, after coming to Ellwood City from OLSH. The Wolverines were 17-53 in the last three seasons, including 7-15 in 2010, as the Wolverines were alive for a playoff spot until the final day of the regular season.
