The single busiest night of the 2013 WPIAL gridiron campaign had a chill with some of the results on a Friday the 13th. Welcome to Week 3. The Boss had been in desperate need of a new smart phone for much longer than Chick’s Picks could remember. Although MSA Sports is continually evolving in the social media world, The Boss has turned those reigns over to his people, while remaining content with his early edition Blackberry—surely one of the first models ever made.The ancient artifact was still an integral part of Friday nights at MSA Sports World Headquarters, with the tall task of receiving text messages of score updates from across the WPIAL. Crossover play is the highlight this week in the district college football slate as the PSAC Eastern and Western Divisions square off. Robert Morris looks to win their second straight and W & J heads to meet a nationally ranked opponent.Here are previews of ALL the games, recaps will be posted on Sunday.Shippensburg (0-1) at Slippery Rock (1-0) 6pm on WLER 97.7-FM and the MSA Sports Network The Red Raiders were ranked in the top 10 to start the season but were shut out by then number 25 Shepherd last week. It was the first time the Red Raiders were blanked since 2008. On a gorgeous Saturday afternoon for high school football, nine district teams took to the field in an effort to keep the high school offense going that began on Thursday and continued big time on Friday. For the most part, those teams did no t disappoint as six of the nine scores 20 points or more. Football is a copycat sport. If somebody has success at any level, it seems to filter up and done as fads and tendencies come and go. For years many teams have wanted to emulate the Baltimore Ravens defense. After the Ravens D’s performance in the NFL season opener on Sunday, it seems many WPIAL football teams can now say mission accomplished after a night of high scoring with points a plenty. If there was one word that best described opening night of the 2013 WPIAL and Pittsburgh City League football season, it was probably cramps. That funny sounding word that is no laughing matter when you are laying on the field in horrific pain. There should be a lot fewer of those nagging muscle issues this week with a splendid evening temperature wise expected throughout Western Pennsylvania. Seneca Valley lost almost every offensive starter from a team that went 10-2 and averaged 37 points a game last season. But coach Don Holl didn’t have to look far and wide for something to jumpstart this year’s offense.He simply had to look across the family dinner table.Seneca Valley’s new quarterback is T.J. Welcome to Week 2. Chick’s Picks typically likes to avoid angry fans, especially in Week 1. Things did not exactly go as planned last week, however, when the house prognosticator inadvertently riled up the Tri-County South faithful.Upon further review, it appears that Chick’s Picks, amidst the excitement of opening week, unwittingly omitted her Tri-County South predictions. The 2013 district college football slate kicks off with a bang this weekend. 19 teams from the area start their season, while two others head to the field for the second time. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Week one of the 2013 WPIAL football season showed a shining example of that statement, with a pair of defending champions in North Allegheny and Clairton, convincingly hushing the whispers that they were set to be declining in the current season due to graduation losses. Week two is chock full of delicious match-ups as well. After losing their 2013 season opener this past Friday 81-0, Geibel High School will forfeit their Week Two game on Friday at Beth-Center.This marks the second year in a row the Gators will forfeit their second game against the Tri-County South powerhouse Bulldogs.
