Saturdays Scholastic Starz – 10/16/2011
The 2011 Stretch Run of the WPIAL football season got a taste of Saturday football with three Class AA and a pair of Class A conference games. While unlike Friday night, it was a dry afternoon and evening on the high school gridiron, high winds were a factor at all five venues. A fall wind blew into Western Pennsylvania and also brought in a new leader in the PSAC West as Slippery Rock dumped ranked Cal in a battle for first place. Since the WPIAL formed Class AAAA football in 1980, only six running backs who played in Class AAAA rushed for more than 4,000 career yards.But two of them reached the milestone on the same night Friday.Mount Lebanon’s Luke Hagy and Pittsburgh Central Catholic’s Damion Jones-Moore had big games in victories Friday night and also pushed past 4,000 yards.
