Fox Chapel & Sewickley Academy Boys WPIAL Tennis Champs Again

One of the longest championship dynasty's in WPIAL history continued on Thursday as Sewickley Academy swept past Indiana 5-0 to win the WPIAL Class 2-A boys team tennis title. The championship is the 13th in a row for the Panthers and 21 of the last 24 2-A crowns since their first district championship in 1993. While it pales in comparison, Fox Chapel won their second straight Class 3-A title with a victory over top-seed Peters Township. Norwin’s Santilli & Fox Chapel’s Nord/James Win State Tennis Titles
November 5, 2016
Three WPIAL tennis players were able to win Class 3-A state titles Saturday at the 2016 PIAA Girls Singles and Doubles Tennis Championships at the Hershey Racquet Club. While district players were shut out of the medal chanse in Class 2-A, Maria Santili of Norwin won  the PIAA 3-A singles title while Amanda Nord and Charlotte James of Fox Chapel cruised to the PIAA 3-A double championship. Norwin's Santili a junior won 6-4 6-4 over Eliza Askarova from George Washington. Up until the finals, Santili had only lost 9 total games in 6 sets and reached the finals rather easily. She was tested Saturday in a close match but brought home a PIAA state singles title.

North Allegheny and Beaver Settle for State Silver in Girls Tennis
October 30, 2016
A WPIAL girls team tennis squad had won ten consecutive Class 3-A state crowns including three in a row for North Allegheny. That decade of dominance ended Saturday though when the Tigers shot at a fourth straight state crown came up short when they fell to Harriton. Meanwhile, the drought continues for WPIAL schools in Class 2-A with only one state champion ever (Sewickley Academy in 2011). Beaver made it interesting as the WPIAL champs reached the finals for a second straight year only to fall to Wyomissing. The title for Harriton was the Rams first in 3-A and 8th overall while Wyomissing wins fifth PIAA title and first for the Spartans since 2003.
