The Battle to the Bluff is about to begin, and the only place to follow the action of the start of the February Frenzy is here this week here on the MSA Sports Network. We start with the WPIAL Basketball Playoff Pairings Show and then follow-up with EVERY WPIAL boys and girls basketball postseason contest starting this weekend. While the WPIAL was crowning district champions this weekend in Class AA, the top wrestlers in Class AAA were wrestling to earn their invitation to the 2013 WPIAL Class AAA Individual Wrestling Championships next weekend. The Class AA WPIAL Championships had a lot of variety to the weekend, with 12 total schools being represented at the top of the podium at Chartiers Valley. Burrell led the way with 3 Champions, including Senior Phil Marra at 145, Senior Dakota DesLauriers at 182, and Sophomore Alan Beattie at 285. 11 other schools brought home individual gold, including Burgettstown, Derry, South Side, South Park, Kittanning, Charleroi, Freedom, South Fayette, Jefferson-Morgan, Chartiers-Houston, and Avella.This Week on the MSA Sports Network – 02/19/2013

The 2014 WPIAL Individual Wrestling Class AA Championship field is now set following the three sectional events Saturday. Four in a row on the district level, now Canon-McMillan has won back-to-back state championships. The Big Macs edged Central Dauphin Saturday afternoon to win the PIAA Team Wrestling Class AAA crown. Also in Hershey, Bethlehem Catholic won their third straight Class AA championship.Meanwhile, making their first ever state playoff appearance, Franklin Regional finished third when the Panthers won the Consolation Round championship. For the first time in AA, the WPIAL will have the opportunity to have three teams compete in the PIAA Team Tournament. The Chartiers Houston Buccaneers defeated the Jefferson Morgan Rockets Saturday 42-30 to advance to the pigtail round. Just like the move Groundhog Day, the WPIAL Team Wrestling Playoffs have that same old feeling. In the end, it's Canon-McMillan and Burrell taking home the gold on, oddly enough, February 2nd. The Big Macs captured the record fourth consecutive Class AAA championship with a narrow victory over Franklin Regional while the Buccaneers won a seventh straight Class AA crown with a close win over South Fayette.
