Layup lines: Ligonier Valley will attempt to reach a District 6 final for the first time since 1987 after defeating Penns Valley, 57-33, in the first round Wednesday. Marichak, who averages 18.4 points, had 20 points, six assists and five steals in the win over Penns Valley. Marrek Paola had a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Paola averages 24 points and 13.7 rebounds. … Mt. Union recorded a 48-33 win over No. 3 Juniata in the first round Wednesday. Posey had 19 points to lead the Trojans, which lost to Juniata in the postseason a season ago. Mt. Union is 4-1 over its last five games. Mt. Union never has qualified for a District 6 boys basketball championship game.
