Week 2 saw some offensive showdowns in PSAC crossover games as teams get ready for divisional play next week.

California took on their second ranked opponent of the season and the biggest question, will the Lock Haven losing streak ever end. Details follow, with recaps of all the games:

Shippensburg 55 – Slippery Rock 35
Zach Zulli threw four touchdown passes, three coming in the final 4:30 of the second quarter, he also caught a td pass as the Red Raiders cruised to the crossover win at Seth Grove Stadium. Zulli, who was the PSAC East Co-Offensive Player of the Week last week, staked his claim to a second straight honor with 348 yards passing, Shippensburg had 566 yards of offense and 28 first downs.

Shippensburg led 14-0 in the first quarter on a Zulli 3 yard touchdown pass to Trevor Harman, the Red Raider added a Jake Metz Pick 6 of a Jared Buck pass for 24 yards, following a 55 minute lighting delay. Jaimire Dutrieuille set up the Rock with a 45 yard kickoff return, the freshman notched 235 all-purpose yards on the day. John Schademan took a 48 yard touchdown pass from Buck to cut the score to 14-7, after one.

That didn't last long, on third and goal at the four, with some trickery, Kevin Herod took a lateral from Zulli and tossed it back to the quarterback for the touchdown and a 21-7 lead. Thanks to another great kickoff return by Dutrieuille, the Rock needed just two plays to score, Buck to Schademan for 58 yards and a 21-14 game.

Marquis Knight intercepted Zulli, setting up the Rock with a chance to tie the game, but SRU turned the ball over on downs at the Ship 29. After the teams traded possessions, Zulli connected with Jacob Baskerville for a 35 yard touchdown and the Red Raiders started to pull away.

Trailing by 14, things would take a turn for the worse for the Rock as Buck lost control of the football, he recovered the fumble, but left the game and did not return. Transfer Nigel Barksdale took over for SRU, but could not lead the offense. Zulli connected with Mike Frenette for 30 yards and a score to go up 35-14, Caleb Vescovi went behind center for the Rock but went three and out, allowing Shippensburg the ball back. Zulli hit Sheldon Mayer for a 20 yard score with 21 seconds remaining in the half and a 41-14 lead.

Barksdale marched the Rock offense down the field early in the third, but was sacked on a fourth and five at the Ship 14, turning the ball over on downs for the second time in the game. On the next possession, Akeem Satterfield got into the act, blowing thru the defense for a 56 yard touchdown run.

Shippensburg killed any Rock hope of a comeback, using a 13 play drive that went into the fourth quarter, Frenette scored on a two yard run to make it 48-21. Dutrieuille had another kickoff return of 43 yards, setting up Barksdale to LaQuin Stephens-Howling for 21 yards and a touchdown. But every time the Rock had a glimmer of hope, the Red Raiders rained on their parade, Frenette scored on a 70 yard run. Barksdale scored on a 23 yard run with 37 seconds left to end the scoring.

Frenette had 16 carries for 139 yards, Baskerville had six catches for 126 yards. Shippensburg is now 2-0 on the season.

Satterfield carried 21 times for 138 yards, Barksdale threw for 95 yards and ran for 76 yards. Buck was 6 of 13 for 125 yards before leaving with the injury. Schademan had six catches for 125 yards and the two scores. The Rock falls to 1-1.

Hobart 28 – Geneva 7
One week after posting 53 points in a loss at Frostburg State, the Golden Tornadoes could find no offense in a loss to 18th ranked Hobart in Geneva, New York. Geneva managed just 176 yards of offense, after having over 700 yards the week before.

The Statesmen blocked a Ed Schuster punt and recovered at the Geneva 1, Nick Strang scored on the next play for a 7-0 lead. Geneva dodged a bullet early in the second, Jake Delmonico intercepted a Strang pass at the goal line, but the GT's went three and out, Nolan Toran blocked another Schuster punt, Strang scored on a yard run and Hobart was up 14-0.

Hobart went up 21-0 on a long 14 play drive, Bobby Dougherty scoring from two yards out with 13:48 remaining. The Statesmen took advantage of another Geneva miscue, Rocco Colavecchia fumbled at the Hobart 32. Strang hit Junior Woodard four plays later for a 36 yard touchdown. Colavecchia scored on a 22 yard run for the only Geneva points.

Strang was 13 of 19 for 164 yards. Woodard had six catches for 99 yards. The Statesmen are now 2-0 on the season.

Saint John Fisher 28 – W & J 24
The Presidents dominated the game on the stat sheet but could not hold on for the win. Ryan Kramer's 91 yard touchdown pass to Jason Beaumont with just under six minutes to play was enough to give ninth ranked Saint John Fisher the win at Cameron Stadium.

W & J racked up 28 first downs and 445 yards of offense, but could not score at critical times. The Presidents turned the ball over four times, one was returned 100 yards for a touchdown by Adam Burdick on a Pick 6.

The Presidents took the lead on their first possession, Matt Bliss previewing things to come as he connected with Hunter Creel for a 40 yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead. W & J had a chance to add on late in the first but Eric Eberle's 39 yard field goal attempt was blocked by Mike Benderski.

W & J drove right down the field again early in the second, to the Fisher 4, but Bliss was picked off and Burdick took it to the house to tie the game. Eberle gave W & J back the lead with a 36 yard field goal. With 1:55 left in the half, the Presidents started the two minute drill, but it wasn't a normal drill with short passes to stop the clock. Tim McNerney carried five times for 53 yards on the drive to the 2, Bliss went in with 29 seconds left and the Presidents were thinking upset, leading 17-7 at the half.

The Cardinals used a ten play 81 yard drive on their first possession of the second half, Kramer to David Kirshner for the 14 yard touchdown. W& J answered with Bliss connected with Creel for their second touchdown of the afternoon, this time a 37 yard score and a 24-14 lead.

St John Fisher scored on their first possession of the fourth quarter, taking advantage of a short field after a 24 yard punt return by Matt Monacelli. Kramer connected with Beaumont for a 25 yard touchdown to cut the lead to three with 12:59 left. The Presidents punted twice and had the Cardinals pinned deep, but Kramer hit Beaumont for the long score and St. John Fisher took the lead.

W & J drove to the Cardinal 35 but turned the ball over on downs with 2:22 left, Bliss was sacked on fourth and six. The defense would hold, the Presidents got the ball back with 1:19 left and 71 yards to go for the winning score. Bliss hit Creel for 14 yards and Alex Baroffio for 11 to move into Cardinal territory. Another completion to Baroffio took the ball to the 31, but Bliss was intercepted on the next play by Troy Sant at the 10 yard line to end the game.

The Cardinal attack was held to just 12 first downs. Kramer was 10 of 24 for 183 yards. Beaumont had two catches for 116 yards, both for scores. St John Fisher now goes to 2-0.
