At least eight athletes from WPIAL schools will participate in the 2018 Penn Relays on April 28-30 at historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
Heading the list is North Allegheny senior Ayden Owens in the 400-meter hurdles and Hempfield senior Molly DeBone in the pole vault.
The others include Seneca Valley's Zach Gehm (discus), Brownsville's Gionna Quarzo (3,000), Upper Ct. Clair's Savannah Shaw (mile), Mt. Lebanon's Molly Managan (400 hurdles), Butler's Jena Reinheimer (discus) and South Park's Maura Huwalt (discus).
More WPIAL athletes can be added if they are accepted before in the next couple weeks.
Owens is the returning PIAA Class AAA 110- and 300-meter hurdles champion.
DeBone is a two-time PIAA placewinner and was the WPIAL Class AAA champion in 2015 and a two-time runner-up.
“I'm looking forward to competing against some great athletes around the country,” DeBone said. “I'm exciting about the opportunity.”
