Foxes junior Morgan Monteverde finished second with an 85. Sophomore Ava Calandra also hit the target score of 89 by finishing sixth with an 87.

Top of the section

The Foxes have been making the most of playing well in one of the traditionally toughest sections in Class 4A. Fox Chapel won its first four Section 3 matches and is 6-1-1 overall. The Foxes started the season 1-1-1 before reeling off five straight victories.

The Foxes recorded four shutouts in five matches during Fox Chapel’s winning streak.

Bulldogs meet

Bulldogs sophomore Meriwether McCargo earned an opportunity to defend her WPIAL Class 3A tennis title in a rematch with Penn-Trafford junior Mia Williams set for Sept. 19. But McCargo’s path to the finals had to produce some mixed emotions for her. In the semifinals, McCargo had to play teammate and fifth-seeded Brooke Henderson.

McCargo won the match 6-2, 6-1.

Fox Chapel had two players qualify for the WPIAL tournament. Sienna Siegel and Anna Kintner each lost in the first round.

Vaughan protects title

Fox Chapel’s Ethan Vaughan has battled injuries over the past two seasons, but that hasn’t prevented him from succeeding when he can compete on the course. Vaughan finished the course at the Kiski Invitational in 15 minutes, 58 seconds to defend his title from last season.

The Foxes girls team placed third at the event, while the boys team brought home the team title.
