The Fox Chapel boys golf team has found plenty of success at the individual level and is still in the race for the section team title.
During the section qualifier Sept. 19, Fox Chapel had four golfers punch their tickets to the WPIAL Class 3A individual championships.
Davey Fuhrer led the Foxes by shooting a 4-under par 69 at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course. Carson Kittsley (72), David DiGregory (79) and Davis Kittsley (80) also posted qualifying scores. The target score was 82.
On the girls’ side, Clara Koteski scored 91 at Pittsburgh Field Club to qualify. Lucy Rygelski also hit the target score 93 to be eligible for the individual championships.
McCargo wins section
Bulldogs freshman tennis player Meriwether McCargo cruised to the Section 3-3A tennis tournament title. McCargo beat Baldwin’s Gabrielle Modor, 6-2, 6-0, in the finals.
McCargo, who was seeded No. 3 in the WPIAL Tournament, advanced to the finals and clinched a trip to the PIAA Tournament in the process. McCargo played Penn-Trafford sophomore Amelia Williams in the finals. The results from the match were too late for this edition.
Williams is the defending champion.
Tennis players bow out
The Foxes had two athletes compete in the Section 3-3A tennis tournament. Sienna Siegel, the Foxes’ top singles player, was seeded fourth and beat Allderdice’s Ali Blitstein in the first round. Siegel was eliminated in the next round by Oakland Catholic’s Abby Santoro, 10-8.
Fox Chapel’s Anna Kintner, the No. 6 seed in the tournament, beat Thomas Jefferson‘s Ada Trbovich in the first round before being eliminated by Modor.
Outside of sectional competition, Umayma Trebak and Caroline Leland took second place for Fox Chapel at the NA doubles tournament.
Football ready to come home
For a rebuilding program, Fox Chapel’s first five weeks of the football season couldn’t provide many more challenges for a young roster. After the Foxes’ game with Pine-Richland on Sept. 22, Fox Chapel had played four of its first five games on the road.
The Foxes lost 34-0 to Upper St. Clair on Sept. 15, the second time it has been shut out this season.
Foxes stay in playoff picture
The Foxes’ girls soccer team picked up a crucial win over Allderdice on Sept. 20. Fox Chapel blanked Allderdice, 2-0, to protect its spot in fourth place in Section 1-4A. Fox Chapel has averaged 3.22 goals per game this season.
The win over the Dragons stopped a two-game losing streak for the Foxes. Fox Chapel had previously dropped a pair of one-goal losses to Butler and North Allegheny.
