Bumping up to Class 2A hasn’t been too harsh on the Fox Chapel hockey team.

While the Foxes aren’t as dominant as their team that made a run to the Penguins Cup final, Fox Chapel is in a good position for another playoff run. The Foxes are off to a 6-3 start and sit in third place behind Thomas Jefferson and Latrobe.

Liam Wiseman led the team with 13 goals, while Dom Casile was second with eight. Casile was tied with Killian Kissan for the team high in points with 19. Wiseman was second on the team with 18 points.

Tucker Cullen (11 points) and Grady Cullen (10) are both in double figures. Joe Rattner is 4-1 in net for Fox Chapel with a 4.81 goals-against average.

New swim coach

Matt Mauclair will take over the Foxes’ swim program this season for Dan Taylor. Mauclair had been an assistant with Fox Chapel for the previous three seasons.

Mauclair has plenty of experience coaching swimming, including time spent with the Killer Whales club team.

Mauclair graduated from Schenley High School and attended Point Park University. In addition to playing basketball, Mauclair has extensive experience competing in Iron Man competitions.

All-section honors

Three Fox Chapel boys soccer players were chosen to the all-section first team in Section 1-4A. Milo Chiu, Colin Lazzara and Pablo Linzoain were selected. On the girls’ side, Kate Friday, Madeline Grimsley, Emily McKee, Alyssa Quakenbush, Sydney Schutzman and Anna Troutman were picked.

The girls team made a surprise run to the WPIAL Class 4A title game before upsetting North Allegheny for the championship. Foxes girls soccer coach Carlo Prati was picked as the section coach of the year.

Mckee, Friday and Troutman were all picked as all-WPIAL selections as well.

Volleyball players honored

Vanessa Perez Milano was the lone Fox Chapel player selected to the first team of the all-section volleyball team. Emma DiRocco and Claire Feczko were each on the second team. Scarlett Hancock was named honorable mention.

Monteverde earns award

Fox Chapel graduate Patrick Monteverde was recently named the Miami Marlins minor league pitcher of the year. While spending time in the Double-A Southern League, Monteverde went 10-5 with a 3.32 ERA in 21 starts. Monteverde pitched for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.
