The Fox Chapel boys cross country team has some talent but is hoping to add depth this fall.
“Our team looks to be pretty thin numbers-wise, but we do have five very good, dedicated varsity kids.” FC coach Tom Moul said. “They've worked hard this summer.”
The five returning runners are sophomore Christian Fitch, juniors Avery Bursick, Greg Overbeck and Ian Brown, along with senior John Folkerts.
“Christian is our only returning runner who made it to the state meet last year,” Moul said. “He's been working hard all summer to get back there again and has evolved into quite a team leader, as well. John Folkerts is looking to have a productive senior season. He's never made it to states, but is very focused on trying to get there this season. He's a hard worker and very good racer.”
The FC girls had just three runners with varsity experience running last season: juniors Annika Urban, Sarena Seeger and senior Caelan Miller. Urban and Seeger qualified for the state meet as freshmen, and Miller qualified for the PIAA track championships twice.
All three are back this season, hoping to return to PIAA competition.
“We have a whole varsity team that has been to the state meet,” Moul said. “Besides Caelan, Annika and Sarena, the others are sophomore Brooke Krally, Izzy Doerr and Grace Sisson, senior Megan Stafford and junior Anna Folkerts.”
Krally finished 14th last season at WPIALs and also made it to the WPIAL finals in track in the 3,200. Sisson made it to the WPIAL finals in the 1,600 in track.
“I'm very excited to see how far this team can go,” Moul said.
