Mother Nature didn’t allow the Freeport and Quaker Valley football teams to play much of their nonconference game Friday night at Freeport Area Athletic Stadium.

The teams were 5 minutes, 48 seconds into the contest when lightning first was spotted by game officials.

The teams were ushered off the field immediately as the mandatory 30-minute delay went into effect.

Lightning continued to be seen in the sky above the stadium, and at about 8:10, the game officially was postponed.

The Quakers and Yellowjackets will resume the game Saturday morning at 10. The game is scoreless.

QV will have a third-and-4 from its 7.

Freeport came into the game 1-1 overall after a Week Zero victory over Indiana and a tough 21-7 loss last week to Derry.

Quaker Valley lost to Freedom, 7-0, in Week Zero. It didn’t play last week’s game against Keystone Oaks because of similar severe weather issues.

QV took the opening kickoff, but the Yellowjackets defense forced a three-and-out.

Freeport also had to punt on its first possession, but the punt coverage team forced a fumble recovered by Madden Wisniewski.

But the Yellowjackets offense wasn’t able to move the ball from the Quakers 35 and punted the ball. The coverage team came up big again, downing the ball on the 1.

QV took over and moved it out to the 7 when play was suspended.
