Luke Mort chose playoff game day to make his college commitment.

Then, the Greensburg Central Catholic senior forward’s focus quickly shifted to winning a WPIAL soccer title.

Mort announced Monday afternoon his verbal commitment to Pitt. The Centurions’ go-to goal scorer also had scholarship offers from Holy Cross, Robert Morris and Dartmouth.

“I went back down (to Pitt on Monday) to go over everything, and it just felt right,” Mort said. “I believe I’ll grow as a player and person, all while receiving a great education.

“I want to win the whole thing for my school and teammates; I owe it to them.”

Mort had 29 goals before Monday night’s playoff game against Vincentian and 127 for his career.

“We’re happy for him,” GCC coach Tyler Solis said. “It’s local, we get to watch him play, his parents are going to get to see him. It’s a good situation for him.”
