Greensburg Salem School District hired a new athletic director: Mike Burrell Jr., who serves the same role at North Catholic.
The school board voted 7-2 on Wednesday to hire Burrell at an annual salary of $75,000, with members Jeff Metrosky and Robin Savage opposing.
Burrell will start at Greensburg Salem next week. He said he grew up in Hempfield and is excited to return to Westmoreland County.
“Greensburg Salem’s a great school district. It has a great reputation,” he said.
Burrell replaces Lynn Jobe, who announced her retirement in June. Jobe served as athletic director since 2010 and was with the district 35 years as a teacher and coach.
Jobe made about $99,000 a year at the time of her retirement.
Unlike Jobe, who continued to teach while running the athletic program, Burrell solely will serve as athletic director, according to the district.
“I want to help the coaches to succeed and the kids to succeed and put them in the best position to do that,” he said.
