Herald spotlight athlete: Fox Chapel’s Nate Roe

Nate Roe, a junior on the Fox Chapel swim team, qualified for this weekend's WPIAL Class 3A championships in four events: the 200-yard medley relay, the 50 free, the 100 backstroke and the 200 free relay. He is also on the lacrosse team.

Do you think the Pirates will do good this year?

I don't know. I'm optimistic, but they shouldn't have traded Andrew McCutchen.

Do you have any superstitions or rituals before a meet?

Not really. I just usually eat some fruit beforehand.

What three words would you use to describe yourself?

Thoughtful, concerned and optimistic.

What is your favorite vacation destination?

Coastal Maine.

Who is your favorite athlete?

I like golf, so either Ricky Fowler or Jordan Speith.

What three items have to be in your refrigerator?

Milk, Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce and clementines.

If you could go somewhere you've never been before, where would you go?

Russia. It seems like an interesting place.

What is your favorite TV show?

“BBC Top Gear”

What would make up your all-time favorite meal?

Any pizza with pineapple and sausage.

What junk food do you have a weakness for?

White chocolate.

Is there a food you refuse to eat?

Kale.

Who would you like to see disappear from public view?

Any or all of the Kardashians.

Who would be your dream date?

Michelle Obama.
